3rd Trimester

Is 6 1/2 mos to late to start PreNatal Yoga?

I haven't been able to go because I felt so sick all this time in my pregnancy.

Now my sciatic nerve and back is really hurting me and I would like to see if Yoga may help alleviate the pain.

Do you think it's too late to start? I've never done it before and I'm not in the best health (weakness, exhaustion, etc.)

  • I don't think its ever too late to do something good for you like yoga. Just make sure the instructor knows about the issues you are dealing with . She/he can modify the poses so its doable. Have fun!

  • I don't have experience with the prenatal yoga, but when my sciatic nerve acted up the physical therapist and doctor both recommended the pool. Do you have a pool in your area that you could do laps at, or offers prenatal swim? It feels so good!

  • no pool in my area, and worse than that, i can't swim. Embarrassed

  • my instructor requires a doctors note before you start her 8 week session. So maybe your instructor will do the same. If doc thinks it is ok..I say go for it. I loved doing Yoga..haven't been in a while though.
  • I am 29 weeks and just started prenatal yoga.  I meant to do it from the beginning and was just too sick and exhausted.  Lately my legs, back and hips have been hurting so much that I figured I had to try something.  I bought Shiva Rae's prenatal yoga DVD from Target.  The workout shows someone from each trimester so I found it easy to follow.  Not sure if its helping yet, but I figure it can't hurt. 
  • I just started and love it so far! I got the okay from my doctor just in case and all she said was no hot yoga and no upside down poses.
