Any moms out there tried the G Diapers? My husband and I are expecting and have been looking into eco friendly diapers.....are these good diapers in general? Any negatives?
I
used them for months with DS and liked them. They have a learning
curve to them. It took a while before I was able to figure out how to
fit them on him right, so he didn't leak. I liked for the first month
or so. It was a good transition for me to go from disposables to
gdiapers to cloth.
You will almost always get poo on the liner, at least while DC has BF poo or runny poo. So
you will be dealing with washing poo. It will normally catch
it before it gets on the cover, but not always. I did not find them to
work that well through the night. I had to double up the inserts and
then it got bulky and gaped at the leg, so it leaked. I had to change
him through the night so he didn't leak. The inserts are Really
expensive. They cost approximatly $0.20 more, per diaper, than disposable diapers
(I calculated the difference to pampers/huggies). The insert bunches
up between the legs. Sometimes a squirmy baby will make for a more
difficult diaper change because you have to get it on right.
I
started using cloth because of cost/looked easier. And they are TONS
easier. DS has not once leaked out of the cloth. I figured if I was
having to wash poo anyways why not try cloth? DS has never had a
diaper rash in the cloth. We also used the gdiaper with cloth
inserts, on diaper wash day, and I think the cloth works better than
the disposable inserts.
And, about it being more eco
friendly, nothing biodegrades in a land fill, no matter what it says.
The only way for them to be more eco friendly is for you to compost the
pee ones yourself and flush the poop ones. AND, they still have
chemicals and stuff in the inserts, just like disposables, to make them
more absorbant.

Wow thank you! It's great to get feed back from someone who has been there done that :-)
We were wondering just how great they were or if cloth was the way to go.....
glad I could help
I did like them when I used them. BUT I certainly didn't love them. I got frustrated with them a lot.
I like cloth soooo much better. In my opinion it is so much more absorbant and fit better and cuter
There are some ladies on here though that use them when they go out of town or something though because they say it's easier for them to use them.
