I just got back from my 3 hour glucose test so I'm waiting on the results. If I were to have GD, how do you test your blood? Does it hurt and how often do you do it? Anyone have any pictures of the needle?
I am doing 4 tests per day....one when I get up (fasting) and then 1 2 hours after breakfast, lunch and dinner. You do a small finger prick and then you put the blood on a test strip which goes into a monitor and gives you a number. I have the One Touch Ultra 2 and I like it. You can set it so that the needle doesn't put as much pressure (mine is set at 4 right now). I have the Ultra Soft Lancets. You should be able to check all of this stuff out online on the One Touch site. I was petrified of doing this, but it does not hurt NEARLY as much as the doctor's office. I've only been donig it a week and have gotten used to it.
I use the same stuff and it isn't so bad. I find it very funny though that they are called Ultra Soft Lancets. I think it is an impossibility for needles to be ultra soft no matter how little they are (I don't have a picture but they are tiny).
Good luck! Hopefully you won't have to deal with it but if you do- you will get used to it and it isn't as bad as you think.
I have a Freestyle Lite... The lancets are specific to the meter... It's just a lil prick/pinch. Doesn't hurt at all really. I would say the needle is less than or right at a cm long. super small.
Good luck! It is a little uncomfortable testing at first but it really isn't that bad. I used to use the TruTrack meter and did finger pricks which were a little sore but then I got the FreeStyle lite which is way better I prick my palm instead and it has never hurt since. I test 4 times a day. One fasting (right when you wake up) and 1hr after each meal. I use ultra thin lancets. I think if you google it there is a picture.
