Started having issues over a week ago now. Talk about painful, and as if we don't have enough things to deal with while pregnant. I found out I have a hernia in my groin few months ago so that is pain all day long. Then week before last found out had two different types of infections. Then after a 14hr hospital stay now I have kidney stones. All they told me to do is drink lots of water and hope it doesn't happen again. Anyone else have issues with these and know anything else that helps. I started having issues with back pain again last night and still hasn't let up.
Re: Kidney Stones?
I had one years ago and then a kidney infection within the last five years. I'm so sorry! This is such a painful thing! Did they give you an antibiotic? Because the last thing you want is to prolong the pain with an infection. Are they making you strain your urine to catch the stones? I'm not crazy about the "drink lots of water & nothing else" response from them. Usually they don't test the stones until you've had this recur, but if I was pregnant, I would want them to. It might be because of too much of a certain vitamin in your diet - my dad had them for decades and they determined it was too much calcium. You really do need to push the plain water to help flush them out.
I'm sorry, but the only thing that helped me were strong painkillers. I'm sorry, again! I know this is the worst, except maybe for labor!
I feel your pain - literally! I was in and out of the hospital for literally years starting around 17 yrs old. They couldnt figure out what was causing the constant kidney stones. Finally after extensive testing they found that my body doesnt produce enough citrate - which prevents calcium stones from forming. I was put on potassium citrate medication...2 pills, 4 times a day, every day for the rest of my life. Fun huh? Well now that I'm pregnant I had to stop taking the pills b/c they were making my nausea worse...
Long story longer (lol) - I can feel the pain beginning in my back and I know it's the stones again. My only advice to you is the same advice I'm giving myself...lots and lots and lots of water, lemonade, and cranberry juice (I now hate cranberry juice from drinking so much in the hospital so I stick to cran-grape juice lol). GL!
I just had kidney stones again last week. 1st time pg.. 5th time in the last 8 years.
Yes with the water. I've also heard to mix a table spoon of lemon juice with a table spoon of olive oil and swallow it. Supposedly it makes the stone turn to a jelly like substance and it's able to pass. I haven't tried it yet, but, someone I know swears by it, so it must help some!
Good luck.... don't lift anything and don't strain while on the potty... it makes the pain worse in my opinion! Lie flat as much as you can!
