Pregnancy & Pets

Ladies - lately my dogs have been glued to my hips, I mean I can't even go to the bathroom w/o them being in my face.  They're both very independent dogs.  So here's what I found on the internet...interesting.

Re: Pregnancy & Pets

  • I suppose I didnt notice anything out of the ordinary with my yorkie - especially because she is like that ALL the time! Every morning since we moved into our new house in October, she follows me into the bathroom (and attempts to jump in my lap - good thing shes only 4 lbs and I can push her away!).

  • Thanks for the link.  Helps explain why my dogs have turned into stalkers.
  • That is VERY interesting! My Izzie Mae hasn't left my side since we found out last week. Crazy. I hope she takes on that protective attitude with the new baby once he/she is here. :)
  • Too Funny. I heard about this. We have 2 cats, and the male cat has been sleeping with me and poking his nose in my belly. It's really cute.
  • Before DH and I knew we were pregnant we noticed that our female was beginning to be very clingy to me. ?We found this odd at first until we found out we were pregnant and then it made sense. ?She was def. my DH's dog (our boy was mine) and now they are both attached to my hip. ?
  • My dog knew before I did.  He got very protective, even growled at some friends of ours (he NEVER did that in his life before).
  • Yeah, this is so weird.  My SIL had this w/ her mutt, Sadie.  That dog wouldn't let ANYONE close to my SIL.  It got really out of hand.  But as the article says, different pets will react differently.  Interesting post!
  • DH and I have discussed this very thing. Our sweet pup comes in the bathroom every time I go and has definitely been more of a mommy's girl lately. Come to think of it - she actually has been putting her head on my belly while I am reading in bed at night.

I am glad she is not doing the aloof thing... that would make me sad because once the baby comes I am sure she will get a little less attention... at least until the LO can chase her around!

  • Yes! I completely am with you on noticing a change in my animals and their behaivor! My cats are so "lovey dovey"..and want to be on my lap and or stomach all the time! It was very strange, but a couple weeks ago I had a scare and experienced some cramping in the middle of the night. We don't usually let the cats in our bedroom at night. My husband had to get up early and he opened the door and all of them ran so fast, jumped right on my bed, straight towards me. I am convinced they have an intuition and were worried about the baby!! It was so cute!

  • This pretty much explains our oldest male cat - he has been on me like crazy, wanting to sit in my lap and staring down DH if he is somehow preventing a lap cuddle. Usually he is only interested in me a few minutes a day, now he wont leave me alone.
  • Thank you for posting that!  It explains why my dog has been whining outside the bathroom door everytime I go in there!

    LOL.  So true!

My big dog (he's an 85 lbs Lab mix) has become sort of a quiet protector, always laying at my feet, wants to be in whatever room I'm in, etc.  He was sort of aloof before, kind of a momma's boy, but not to that extreme, more independent.

My little one (a 15 lbs. Chiweenie -- chihuahua/dashcund mix) has been in my lap, resting his head on my belly all the time, he was a daddy's boy before but now he won't leave me alone!

  • My cat has been all over me. She is more attached to DH so I guess its because of the baby
  • My cats haven't acted differently yet...They are all pretty affectionate when they want to be so nothing out of the ordinary yet. I will have to watch them and see if they are acting differently... =^..^=

  • Before I found out l was pregnant my Lab would follow me around EVERYWHERE!  It got to the point where I would have to yell at him to get away from me.  I also have a Yorkie and she started sleeping on my stomach and also following me around.  Both of them always escort me whereever I go especially the bathroom! I think it is really sweet how caring they are and is another reason why I love my dogs so much :)

  • It explains a lot. I think my dogs knew before I did, my husband and I both noticed a change in behavior before I even took a test.
