3rd Trimester

Scheduling Induction-WWYD?

At my last appointment, my doctor had said that if I hadn't had my LO by this week's appointment we would be scheduling an induction date. My appointment is two days away and I've yet to have the first contraction.

So here is my dilemma. My DH has a a job where his work schedule is pretty hectic and difficult to accomodate. He'll only be getting a week off work, so we are hoping that we can schedule the induction for the end of this week, and have him take off work next week. I'm afraid that if I wait until my appointment on Wednesday, it might not work out in our favor to be induced at the end of this week.

I'm wondering if I should call my doctor's office today to see if we could go ahead and schedule the induction for the end of this week, and still go to my Wednesday appointment. That way we can know ahead of time to make sure DH actually gets approved to have off next week.  I just don't know if I should give them a call and see if it's possible, or just wait it out until Wednesday and hope for the best.

Re: Scheduling Induction-WWYD?

  • I'd call today...but I'm a planner and can't stand waiting things out.

  • Why so early?  I would try to schedule for the end of the following week.

  • Mine was scheduled based on when my Dr. was going to be on call so you may call and see when he is going to be on call at the hospital

  • DH and I have the same problem. We will also need to schedule our induction for the end of the week because of DH's hectic work schedule. I wouldn't wait until your app. Wednesday, it might be too late for your DH to get the time off by then. I would call and ask ASAP. The worst thing your doc could say is no. Good Luck!!

Just what the doctor wants to do. I'll be at my due date, and she doesn't want me going to 41 weeks because of some blood pressure issues.

This.  You're not even at your due date yet.  I understand wanting to schedule an induction so that your DH can be there, but I'd also wait until you are past due to schedule the induction, and then have DH take that week following off.  Just my two cents.

Oh, that makes sense.  I would call today, then.

  • I would call today. They'll understand you calling with trying to get your DH off to be there!?
  • Thanks for the help ladies! I think I'm going to go ahead and give them a call and see if we can get it scheduled. Also, I don't really want to be induced, and do hope he comes on his own before then. But gotta take the doc's advice!
  • Just call and explain...
  • I think it depends on how busy your hospital gets and if you go to a group practice or individual OB. My appt. is tomorrow and we can still schedule an induction for Friday due to pre-e.
