For those that have a nanny, do you let her drive your children? Do you give her your car and put her on your insurance or do you let her drive your children in her own car and on her own insurance?
I don't have a nanny but, if I did, I'd let her drive as long as she had a clean driving record. When I'm gone I have my car so I'd let her drive in her own car, if she was comfortable with that. I know a girl that is an au pair here and her employer lets her drive their cars... not sure about the insurance part. I'd want him to be able to go do things during the week and, come winter, they won't be able to walk anywhere so she'd have to drive him in order to get him out of the house.

When I was a nanny I did both. Drove the kids in their car and drove them in mine. It was easier to use theirs because car seats were already in. When I would use my car, we would put their car seats in my car (their extra seats) for the week and leave them. Less moving around = less chance the seats were loose, improperly installed etc. And when I drove my own car, they would give me money for gas if I was driving the kids around a lot.
I was a nanny in college, I drove my own car, had my own insurance and then was reimbursed by how many miles I drove.....if they were working from home I could then use their car, and then obviously didn't get paid gas money. I always like to drive their cars, less wear and tear on my own. But it didn't really matter. The kids were 4 and 6 when I started so a little older than 12-24 months.
