Food reaction = sore butt?

If LO has had a food reaction that resulted in red skin (sometimes bleeding) just around the anus, please tell me about your experience.  DD had a very sore butt two weeks ago.  We thought it was a yeast infection b/c diaper cream didn't make a difference.  We went to pedi, treated it w/anti-fungal cream and the redness went down significantly.  Then today, her poor little butt turned bright red again.  It's only near the opening, where her cheeks press together.  She also pooped seven or eight times.  We keep giving her air time and check her diaper often, but I couldn't believe how quickly it got worse today.  Now I'm starting to question whether she's having a reaction to one of the new foods we've introduced.

It might not be a reaction per se, but some foods can make the poop pretty acidic, which turns into an insta-rash, in my experience anyway.

I haven't been able to pinpoint specific foods, though, even though I can often identify stuff in his poop. Sometimes it's 24 hours, sometimes 48, sometimes longer before I see a specific food turn up in the poop.

  • Thanks.  This also goes along with the idea that it could be caused by extra drool from teething.  Poor thing.  We also gave her peaches today, and they're acidic.
  • This happened to DD after pears. But I must say, that much poop alone can make a heiney red, even if it wasn't acidic. I hope it gets better soon!
