3rd Trimester

bottles--born free vs. dr brown's

I am planning to breastfeed but am still going to get some bottles so DH can feed baby and b/c I'll have to pump when I go back to work.

I know Dr. Brown's are popular because they have that vent system but I've heard they are awful to clean.  Born Free says on their website that their bottles have a venting system as well to prevent earaches/colic symptoms etc.  Anybody used both?  Do the Born Free work just as well?

Re: bottles--born free vs. dr brown's

  • I wanted to use Dr. Browns and we got a free sample in the mail, however Dh thinks they are ridiculous to put together.

We have a couple of about 5 different brands and we will see which one she likes best.  I took apart our born free last night and the venting system is alot easier to put back together than dr. brown's thats for sure.

  • We're going to try a couple different kinds and I don't know how the Born Free work yet (they're on my registry though), but I will say that the Dr. Browns are def a pain to wash. I used them when I was nannying my sister's twins and washing all those parts that many times a day for two babies SUCKED! They did work really well for them though.
  • Our cousins use born free. They and their son love them.

  • We use both and I hate hate hate my Dr Browns bottles.  No matter what I do they eventually leak - even if I do not fill them too full.

My Born Free are great.  They too have a vent system and pieces.

Honestly, DD did not have gas issues with either though.  I just hate the leaking from the Dr Browns.  I know some people love them.

Oh - and the pieces really aren't a big deal.  After a few weeks you will be able to put them together in your sleep.

  • We used Dr. Brown's with DS and never had a problem with leaking.

All babies are different... what you choose for your little one might not be the bottle they prefer.  Some babies are VERY particular!

  • We love our Born Free. They NEVER leak!! I run a Goddard School and a lot of our parents with Br. Browns end up switching because there is too many parts and they leak.
  • really did I seriously put BR. Brown??? Sorry it has been a long week!
  • I bought Dr. Brown....I didn't really give any thought to cleaning them and dealing with all the parts so that's a good topic to bring up!

My friend swears by Dr. Brown's which is why I bought them-- her baby was in the hospital for a month after she was born and my friend said that all the hospital uses is Dr. Brown's and that they work really well. I'm going to BF too but plan on pumping as well so I figure I'll give the Dr. Brown's a try and if they don't work, I'll go from there. I don't have enough room in my cupboards at the moment to buy all differente types of bottles!

  • I am on my third pregnancy and have used Dr. Browns and Born Free.  I HATED born free...they leaked like crazy no matter what!  I liked Dr. Brown but they are a major pain to clean...they have two inner pieces that you have to use a really small brush on and in!  I loved Avent and even used playtex drop ins for a while since at the time avent didn't have bpa free.  Some babies are really picky about nipples too so you may want to buy one of a few differnt types of bottles before you invest in a bunch!  I have heard that milk bank bottles are fantastic too, but I haven't tried them yet!
  • I have the Born Free ones, no baby to feed with yet, I did clean mine, if you have a dishwasher it's a heck of a lot easier, I have a dishwasher case and it comes with all marked compartments for each part, I would however recommend getting two or moe cause it only holds the parts for three.
  • Correction to my above post I have the DR BRIOWN not Born Free, my brain is fried!
