Stepping in...spot on baby's bowels at ultrasound...question

Hi there ladies.   I am wondering if any of you can help me or have a story to share that relates to mine.

We had our big ultrasound last week and we thought all looked great... Size was good, chambers of heart, etc, etc....

Yesterday my midwife told me that they found a soft marker for Down's Syndrome because the obgyn that read our pictures from ultrasound thinks she saw a mark on the bowels.

I feel so worried and unsure....  We had an NT scan and all looked great, so I am hoping this is nothing.  We had no other markers on the baby.

Do any of you have any advice or similar stories that ended up being ok?  thank you for listening...

  • A friend of mine was told that they found cysts on their baby's brain that indicated Down's Syndrome. They really prayed and gave it to the Lord and their baby is a perfect, healthy 2 year old girl now with no signs of Down's or mental handicap!

  • I just went through this.  At an ultrasound at 28 weeks, the tech saw some white stuff on the bowel and called it echogenic bowel.  My doctor said it was a soft marker for downs.  She referred me to a perinatologist and explained that it could just be how it looks on their ultrasound machine and explained that the perinatologist would also better know what they are looking at.  We just went yesterday and her ultrasound machine was much clearer than my doctor's.  She did not agree with the diagnosis and the bowel looked fine on her machine.  She checked everything else out too and it left us feeling reasssured.  I hope everything works out for you!
