Endo diagnosis?

Did anybody ask for the procedure to see if you have endometriosis or did your RE suggest it.  I have very painful cramps, I miss work because of them and I am in tears for the first day or two. Other than that I really don't have other symptoms, well besides IF. Was the procedure painful?

Re: Endo diagnosis?

  • Have you had any ultrasounds or other internal testing done?  I have irregular and painful cycles too, and my RE has me going through u/s, sono and HSG before considering any meds at all.  My u/s showed an endometrioma,  the other two tests are next week.  I am a likely candidate for Lap surgery but I haven't had it yet.

My mother had one years ago, and she said the best advice she had was to start some form of ab exercises way in advance, because they go in through the belly button and it can be hard to sit up for a few days, so I guess the stronger your muscles are the faster the recovery

I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929

  • I had mine because of constant pelvic pain and a cyst that would not go away, but I think since you have symptoms and still not getting pregnant I would do one if I were you. Why waste more time and money on fertility treatments, imo. :)  I had to switch OBs before I found one that agreed with me on needing the lap (I'm so glad I did!!)

It was fairly easy for me, they found a lot of endo so I had a lot of burning from that, and I hated the feeling from the anesthesia afterwards so I was really groggy and out of it but otherwise it was fine. The diagnosis is the hardest part for me.

Yes I have had an internal ultrasound and HSG. The HSG was all clear and looked really good.  The internal us showed one tiny cyst. My RE said the cyst was nothing to worry about and so small that it would never cause any trouble in getting pregnant.  I am starting my 3rd round of clomid tomorrow.

Yea I just want to cover all bases before I spend a ton of money of treatments.  Everything looks great so far but the only thing I havn't done is check for endometriosis.

  • I had kissing ovaries seen on an ultrasound and painful cramps, stage IV endo was found a few weeks later in surgery.

  • After 3 failed Clomid IUI's, my RE suggested a laparoscopy/Hysteroscopy to check for endo.  (I had already gone through every other test in the book - HSG, bloodwork, u/s, etc.) I really did not have any symptoms of endo, but I did end up having it.  He found stage II endo and was able to get rid of it.  He thinks this will really help our chances of conceiving.  The recovery for me wasn't great...it hurt to sit up/walk for a couple of days afterwards but got better and better each day.  My shoulders hurt and my incisions and abdomonal muscles were sore.  I bled for several days after surgery too. But by a week after the surgery I was pretty much 100% back to normal.
  • I had awful cramping the first few days (stay home, curl up in a ball, heating pad, meds do nothing type cramps)... very heavy bleeding... pain during period, sex, and at random times... lower back pain... pretty much all the classic symptoms yet none of my OB's ever suggested I might have it!  When I switched to an RE he said he wanted to do a lap and I was so thrilled to finally have answers to something that's been going on since puberty!!  The surgery was easy-peasy... general anesthesia but outpatient surgery.  Couple tiny scars along bikini line and one through belly button.  In a few days, you're back to work and back to 100% at 2 weeks.  It really wasn't anything to be scared of, and I'm very glad I did it.  HTH!
