I got my bill for my d/e...$5,731.25! Hrm, having a natural m/c has its benefits.
On the bill, the procedure is listed as a missed abortion. Why would it say that? Has anyone else gotten their bills yet with a procedure labeled missed abortion?
when I had my d&c 3 years ago, I was signing some paperwork before I went in for the procedure. I had to sign off on the reason I was having the procedure and this was the reason I had to check and sign. I was shocked and not happy by the terminology. Seriously? They can't add change that?

I can't recall at the moment what my bill says, but the day I went in for my procedure, it said "incomplete missed abortion" on the reason for visit. It made me 1) feel like a failure b/c I couldn't complete something on my own, and 2) like I was some kind of evil woman having an abortion. I hate the terminology.
As for the bill, after everything the grand total came to $8,445. I owe about $1200 of that, which they so nicely gave me approximately 1 week to pay. Yay.

Sadly Missed Abortion is the universal medical term used for miscarriage. Most Dr's don't use the term, but its's a universal term for medical records. I spoke with my Dr. about this before my D&C because I had heard that my bills and medical records would list missed abortion. She calmly explained that its considered the same concept (I still completely disagree), but with a m/c you are dealing with the non-living. It was hard to take, but was glad I had that conversation with her before my medical bills came in. Only one of them referred to it as an abortion, and it was abbreviated (which I appreciated). Regardless, someone should really change that as it can be quite traumatic for those of us who have m/c'd
I am still waiting for my bills to come rolling in. My understanding is that a "missed abortion" is when the embryo/fetus expired, yet a "spontaneous miscarriage" failed to occur. That was me. Embryo estimated at 7 weeks during my 12 week ultrasound. I had increasing nausea and low back pain, but no indication that a m/c was going to happen on it's own...
And I just noticed your siggie: my DH and I met on match.com too!
Yes, mine said it was treatment for missed abortion. It sent me into a complete crying fit. It sucks and the medical terminology should change. I'm so sorry, hugs.
DD(9)DD(5.5)DS(3)DS(born 2/1/11) July 2006, lost a baby at 8 weeks, natural miscarriage , May 2009 lost Zoe Eliana at 17 weeks no reason known, possible under developed organs. Lost two more babies in September 2009 at 7 wks 4 days. Had myomectomy surgery to remove a large fibroid in November 2009.
I think the media has misused the term abortion... but it has always been a medical term for when a miscarriage happens... it has nothing to do with what stigma society puts on it.
The medical term for choosing to terminate an pregnancy is called a "termination" and it would be listed on your medical chart as that or termination of pregnancy.
Re: Missed Abortion
That's what mine said too. Luckly, I had seen a post somewhere similar to this one, so at least I wasn't surprised to see it.
It's good to bring that up again so other people won't be shocked when they see it.
I had to pay about $800 for my 2nd missed abortion. Yep, my records say I have 2 (missed) abortions...
oh yeah, that's nice isn't it? Sorry.

it's awful. but what's even more awful is if a woman has had three or more losses, she may be diagnosed as a "habitual aborter."
Yep, that's what I said they called me

That's awful....makes it sounds like it's a choice, something you can control. Crappy word choice on their part. :-/
