does lack of sleep up sugar levels?

i thought i read somewhere that when you don't get enough sleep, it makes your glucose levels higher.  is this true?  i know that getting enough rest is important in pg anyway, but is it even "more" important when you have GD?

i work part time in the evening and my boss has been crushing me with hours.  so basically i'm with the kids by myself all day from 730-630 when hubby comes home, then working 730-midnight a few days a week and i'm nervous that its going to aggravate the GD....

  • I haven't heard of not getting enough rest aggravating GD. But I do know getting too much sleep can/ going too long between snacks and meals/ and stress can aggravate GD.

  • Stress severely messes up my numbers (makes them go nuts, no matter what I eat!) and so does lack of sleep or even TOO much sleep. ?

  • Yes, absolutely lack of sleep will increase sugar levels.

  • Well that lack of sleep thing explains my high fasting and breakfast numbers the past couple of days. I think there might be something to it.
