High-Risk Pregnancy

If your #s are below......

This may seem like a silly question but i am gonna ask anyway. If i am able to keep my Numbers below 95 fasting and 130 after meals does that mean that my Baby will not be affected by my Having GD . Does keeping my #s controlled by diet mean my BG #s are like woman who dont have GD ?

Re: If your #s are below......

  • I controlled my GD with both my other pregnancies by diet.  Both my girls weighed in the 7lb range and neither had any issues.  I think it's pretty typical that as long as you are controlling it in some way (even if that means insulin) that the risks to your baby are lower.

One of the L&D nurses at the hospital when I had my youngest daughter told me about a girl who delivered a 16lb baby the week before because she didn't control her GD at all.  Refused to diet, didn't see a specialist as recommended, etc.  :?

  • I would agree with pp, if it is controlled and your not cheating then your baby won't be affected. Now sometimes if you are on meds it doesn't effect the baby-but can effect the placenta causing it to get old faster.

You're tellin me!  LOL   My eyes must have been as big as saucers when she said that.  She laughed and said "honey, you'll be fine! Just follow the dr's orders!"  lol

  • In agreement here. That was my big question (repeatedly) for the doctors. I've been assured that since I've been keeping my numbers under control, I am not hurting the baby. Also, that they will see when I get another ultrasound in a few weeks, and that if it looks normal (which it certainly might) then there won't be much of an extra concern come labor time.
  • I don't know if it means that your #s are the same as a non-GD woman, but my understanding is that your #s are low enough for your body to handle them properly without sending extra glucose to the baby. As my OB put it, we just don't want baby swimming in a pool full of glucose.
