Bottle warmer for breast feeding??

Did you register or buy a bottle warmer if you are breastfeeding or do you think they are a waste of money?  I plan on breastfeeding but I want to also supplement by pumping so DH can feed the baby and I'll be going back to work so I will need to pump when returning back to work.

Thanks!

  • I think they're a waste. I just plan on using a kettle to heat up hot water and putting the bottle in the warm water.
  • Loading the player...
  • In my bfing class our instructor said to just let the bottle or storage bag sit in warm/hot water for 5 minutes.  That seems like good advice to me so we are not getting a bottle warmer.
  • I vote waste of money, but I know literally nothing about it. I would ask 0-6.
  • Yes, get one... it will make your life easier.?

We had the Avent one and it was great for frozen milk... we'd just pop a bag in straight from the freezer and it was ready to feed in no time if we forgot to thaw it ahead of time.

  • I am planning on breastfeeding and did buy a warmer. I have a few girlfriends with children who recommended for me to get one just incase there is any issues, for them it was latching, or preemie baby and other instances. I don't see anything wrong with it.

  • I have heard that some breastfed babies develop a preference for warm bottles, simply because they are used to the warmed temps from nursing.

However, you can warm a bottle just as easily in a bowl of warm water, so I don't know that purchasing a bottle warmer is a necessity.

  • My DS was BF and we used one for DS when I worked and DH was home w/ him.  My mom never used one when she watched him, she would just put the bottle in a container boiling water to heat it, but DH liked it b/c he wasn't really sure about how hot to make it and the warmer was a little easier to gauge.

  • I prefer a bottle warmer to going down the hall to the kitchen to get the water warm when I have the mini fridge in the baby room. I use warm water at work with the 7 mo old and I just prefer a bottle warmer.
  • i never used one with my son.  i just either ran it under warm water or let it sit in a bowl of warm water for a few minutes.

  • Your LO might drink cold BM. I can give DD milk straight from the fridge and she takes it. There is no medical reason to warm up milk, it's just based on preference.

Yes, many babies will take it but if you think about BM being their only meal... would you want to eat it cold???

I just never got the "let them have it straight from the fridge" thing... in a pinch sure... but always or regularly? why not make it more?pleasant if you can?

  • We got the warmer because we live in a 2-story and the idea of constantly going up and down to warm the bottle doesn't sound appealing.  The one we got also has a section that holds 2 bottles and keeps it cold for 8 hours.
