We've been trying to decide whether to incorporate Halloween-y stuff into DD's 3rd birthday party (which we've never done before) and do some kind of costume party thing, or to have a princess-themed party since that's her latest obsession. She's not very helpful because she says "Yes!" to every idea I offer.
I realized today that we can do both: we're going have a princess party with the Sleeping Beauty cake she's been asking for, but invite her little friends to dress up as princesses and do some pumpkin-decorating to tie in Cinderella. Ta-da...the Halloween princess party.
How in the world I'm going to tie all that together in an invitation is beyond me at this point, but I think it'll be fun. WDYT, and/or what are you doing this year?

Re: Moms of girls born in October: my b-day party idea
DD will be 4 November 2, and I am doing a Halloween themed party this year for the first time as well. I am not doing costumes, but she will wear a halloween-ish outfit.
I am doing a "Treat" theme. I will have a giant oreo cake (pan from Williams Sonoma) that I will fill with orange icing, a giant cupcake cake and big ice cream cone cupcakes. I think I will have pumpkins filled with candy as well, and brownie pops with a halloween theme. I found breadsticks made into spiders, so i will make those with probably manicotti, and anti pasto. And I found quite a few apps that are halloween themed (like crab rols that look like snakes).
I think you can do an invitation that is the Cinderella pumpkin before it fully turns into the coach, that would work really well for your theme. DD wanted a princess party, but she has had tinkerbell already and I don't want to do the same thing every year. I think I will do that next year when she actually has little girl friends. Right now it is all boys.
ooohhh.... like use the pumpkins for halloween, but tie it in with cinderella's pumpkin carriage?
For the invites you could always use an image of one of the pumpkin scenes from Cinderella like this:
Scratch that. This one is MUCH better and would be perfect on an invitation:
And another:
I agree with the suggestions of tying it all in using the pumpkin/coach connection from Cinderella. Your theme is such a great idea that I might borrow it myself ... my DD's birthday is on Halloween and, like Cubby, she's *totally* into the whole princess thing so she'd have a blast.
I'd send out pumpkin shaped invites, maybe covered with glitter and maybe a mouse or two (paper or stickers) in or on the envelope to represent Gus, Jaq, and the gang? If you did stickers on the envelope, Cubby could decorate them to really give it the personal touch.
Maybe in the wording you could have a play on words with "going to the ball" and "having a ball"?
Fun stuff!
Dude, you guys rule! Thanks so much for the ideas! I had thought of the pumpkins to tie in Cinderella but couldn't figure out how to do the invites to be cute...love the pics!
kirs10nBryce, I just commented back to you on my blog to say I cannot BELIEVE you quoted "Goin' Nowhere" to me. My BF and I have been obsessed with Chris Isaak since I-don't-know-when and I crack up at that line/song all the time! Way creepy how much we have in common.

Hey, I commented again on your blog. Woo hoo, always love to run across other CI fans! At my bridal shower, my friends were going to have "stick the lips on Chris" using a poster of him but the poster didn't arrive in time. So they went in a whole other direction and used a Keanu Reaves poster since they know I can't stand him. I must say, that worked out even better because I had no qualms about throwing away the kiss (sticker) covered Keanu poster and, once the CI poster arrived, I had a pristine poster to hang in the stairwell of my basement. Ok, so now he's covered in kisses too, dork that I am.
