One step closer to finalization

We had our very last post-placement visit yesterday. Hooray! Our social worker says that our report should be going out to the agency and ICPC this weekend which means we are very much on time and that hopefully our attorney will have everything pulled together so that we can finalize right at 6 months (Oct 21st). I'm hoping that since we are early in we can request a court date, rather than having them just approve our paperwork behind closed doors. Apparently, our state isn't big on the actual court proceeding but I think it would be nice to get to have it formally done. Either way is good though!?

I feel like a weight is off my shoulders that we don't have any more things we really have to do now (other than make sure everyone else gets their stuff done). ?

  • YAY. We have one more at 6 months then we move to finalization. Here we have to appear in court but we used home state rules instead of birth state so at least we don't have to go back to upstate NY.
  • Yay!  That is such good news!  I can't wait until we get to that point!

  • aww congrats the judge just singed off on ours behind closed doors and they called us to let us know it was done. its a great feeling though.
  • I'm so glad everything is coming together quickly for you.  We didn't have the same luck.  They lost all the paperwork in TX and had to refile for the termination hearing which didn't take place until Ben was 6 months old.  Then they took forever sending everything to us so we could finalize here. Finally when Ben was 10 months old, we got to finalize.

We were in the judge's chambers when we had our finalization. It was nice with just our immediate family to witness it.  Ben was so sweet and the lawyer asked us about bonding with Ben and when he asked it Ben put his hand on my face and smiled and patted it.  The judge said she didn't even need to hear the answer..she could tell from looking at us how strong our bond was. It was a very special moment. Good Luck!
