My shower is the first week in October and I am trying to figure out how to plan/budget clothing. I will be having my first and then off looking for a FT job. I would like to go back when DS is about 3 months old. How many outfits do you have for a baby (at home and send /keep at day care?) What things do they usually ask you to supply them with?
Re: Amount of supplies/clothing needed for daycare.
I can't really help with budgeting for clothing bc we were given a lot of hand-me-downs and gifts after DS was born. I bargain shop for new stuff and then hit yard sales and mom to mom sales.
For daycare I usually have 3 back up outfits for him and 2 pairs extra socks. Now that he's teething and eating solids I have a stash (4-5) bibs that go home as needed to be washed. (These are usually my yard sale finds). Also a sun hat and sunblock for summer, sweatshirt for fall days outside.
One suggestion since you know your child will be in daycare - register for 2x on things like bulb syringes, sippy cups (to leave one there), Formula holders (perfect for rice cereal). I have a lot of bottles/pump parts so I don't HAVE to wash them every night. That has saved my sanity!
Ditto to PP about the amount of things. I also kept about 3 changes of clothes, 4 bibs, 2 pairs of socks/booties, and then an extra set of bottles, nipples, etc. I went back to work when DD was 3 months and she was with a nanny, and then she was out of the house for daycare at about 6 months.
I've always found Target, Old Navy, and Baby Gap to have cute clothes for "school" that are affordable and comfortable. You can always find things on sale at Old Navy and Baby Gap, especially at the end of the seasons, and then you can stock up for the future. I used to find onesies at Baby Gap for like $2.
We have ~3-4 outfits at daycare. They change her clothes almost every day, and send home the dirty ones, so I just try to keep a rotation going. I don't have specific backup outfits, just send whatever is clean. I think DD has about 12 outfits that she goes through in a week.
DD is pretty true to size (3-6m has fit her when she was 3-6m), but you could have a large or small baby, so make sure you keep the tags on until you are actually ready to use them (NB size is fine to wash in advance, but I wish I hadn't cut the tags and washed some of her other things)
