yep. the most common explanation is called "gestational thrombocytopenia", which basically is a platelet count usually 80-150 (normal is 150-450), which has no short or long term consequences. if the count drops below 80, your doc will usually send you to a hematologist and/or an MFM (high risk OB). you can still deliver vaginally, etc. if the platelets are below 80, some anesthesiologists won't do an epidural, so some docs will recommend various meds to help your platelet count as you get close to term.
i'm ready to start my steroids -- the lowest my platelets got was 50, and we'll see what they are tomorrow! fingers crossed they are higher! PM me if you have other questions.

I have ITP, which is a blood disorder that results in a low platelet count. I had my spleen removed about 7 years ago to help deal w/it.
Now, we monitor my platelets regulary and will go on a low dose of steriod should they drop.
