Babies: 0 - 3 Months

Question for BF Mommas

Are your BF babies on a schedule of sorts?  Maybe not exact times, but a round-about schedule?

'Cause my LO is on somewhat of a schedule now and he is eating primarily formula, and I'm pumping wanting to get back to nursing.  However  I'm wondering if I go back to nursing him, which I found out there is still hope, will he be on a schedule still or will it be like when he was a newborn  - a basic up in the air feed, nap, bedtime?

Re: Question for BF Mommas

  • I am not sure if he will stay on schedule. But i was wondering, does your son still nurse? If not, how will you be re-introducing nursing to him.

My DD had many issues when she was born, but now they are under control, and I can't help but thinking in the back of my mind if she could nurse.

  • My DS is on a schedule...up for the day between 6-7am, feeds 7-8am, naps for 1-2 hours, feeds 10-11am, naps for 1-2 hours, feeds 1-2pm, naps 1-2 hours, feeds 4:30pm, catnap while I walk (push him in the stroller, weather permitting), feeds 6:30pm, bed time at 7pm...feeds 10, 1, 4 overnight.

  • Round about schedule for DD. Sometimes she eats at 2hrs on the clock sometimes longer. I wait until she lets me know she is hungry but sometimes I feed her if she isnt fussy if we are going out to run arrands so that way I dont have to stop what Im doing to feed her. Once she starts on solids Im sure her schedule will become a little more presice.
  • I'm meeting with an LC this week.  Could be a supply issue, so I prob. will be using a supplimenter tube to mimic nursing while pumping formula through so he is still getting fed.

While using this, I will be taking fenugeek and renting a hospital pump - its a totally different pump than one you can buy at BRU - its designed to help build a supply back up.  They said there is always a chance to BF, I think as long as you have milk still coming in.

Our LO's schedule right now is on paper.  I guestimate what he needs when he is fussing based on the time  he is fussing - I write down the exact time he starts a feed, and nap times... this way I could get a roundabout nap schedule.

  • Yeah, we have a basic schedule. It varies an hour here, hour there though. Up at 6am ish, nurse then watch mommy get ready and out the door at 715am. Bottle of BM at Grandma's at 9am, nap, playtime, bottle around noon, nap, playtime, bottle around 3pm, playtime, I pick her up at 5pm, she naps on the way home and wakes up around 6pm to nurse, then playtime, shower at 8pm, nurse to sleep. If I am lucky, she's only up once at night and its usually around 1 or 2am. Wow, I have more of a schedule then I thought we did now that I wrote it out. Basically, she eats every 3 hours during the day and naps and plays in between. Good luck getting back to BF.
