High-Risk Pregnancy

anyone here plus sized?

Just wanting to know if you have any maternity clothing sites to recommend, or anything that helped you.

When I was pregnant the last time (I'm still waiting to test this time) I bought a bella band but even the largest size was too small for my 4-5 month belly.

I normally wear between an 18-22 depending on the style/store.

I did purchase a bunch of ps mat clothes on clearance from JCPenney's recently..even before trying...cause they're hard to find!

Me, too.  I bought a plus-sized maternity band from Motherhood and it's been great, from 12 weeks to 35 weeks :)

  • Looks like we are about the same size.  I have the belly sleeve from Motherhood Maternity.  I was between the regular size and plus size so I went with the plus size and now use it to hold up my maternity jeans.  I have bought 3 pairs of secret fit maternity pants and wear them twice and wash once a week.  Some of the xl maternity shirts at old navy fit just fine.  So far I have probably spent about $200 on maternity clothes and I have no plans to buy anything else! :)
  • old navy and gap. because of course, i'm a little "fluffy" and 6' tall, so i'm just difficult! Smile

i also got the plus size belly band from motherhood, but it ended up being a bit big and i didn't love it. i prefered the maternity pants.

  • i recommend old navy - I bought some knit gauchos and a knit skirt - both I love.  Also their XXL shirts are great.  I'm 34 wks tomorrow with twins, and all my XXL shirts are still fitting well.  i think i'm going to order more gauchcos for post-partum  I also have two pair of the secret fit capris from Motherhood Maternity in 2X.  I love to wear them, hate to wash/iron them.  You can't dry them in the dryer and they wrinkle horribly.

  • I wear a pre-preggo 22/24 or 24/26 depending on stores.  3x in shirts due to being very busty.

I have the plus size band from motherhood that I sometimes wear- the regular size fit fine, but was narrower than the plus size- and I felt more comfy the bigger one.

I have one pair of the secret fit belly convertible capri's in a 3 x- they fit great and I have a lot of room in them should I get bigger.  I wash and dry mine in the regular wash/dry and have no problems.  Mine don't get too wrinkly- and being at home on bedrest- I don't care if they are a little.

I recently bought 3 scoop/round neck tshirts from motherhood in 3x that were clearanced for 9.99- they are great- if not cheaply made.  I would not pay more for them than what  I did.  I generally prefer v-neck, but these are a nice compromise.

Before I had some complications, I went to a few maternity consignments stores- all were at least 1 hr from me- but there I got a pair of shorts, and about 3-4 t-shirts, and a tankini swimsuit- all in all there I spent about $45.

Also- last year I ordered some Lane Bryant Maternity jean capris and a fancy top online- but i miscarried before they were delivered to the house.  Thankfully I kept them because LB no longer sells maternity which is really too bad since they had a fun selection and fit well.

I wear scrubs for work since I am a nurse- and had to buy a bigger size pant and top in some things, but that is all, and I can alter them for after baby if they are too big.

For me- because I am big busted (42-44 FF-H)- I have to wear a bigger top- so Old Navy, etc don't generally work for me.  I do have a couple plus size tees from Target that are still working.  The last few years plus size (and regular) have been going towards longer length tees and tops- and making more assurances that they do not shrink northward when you dry them.  Any gal who is on a budget and is plus size knows that the majority of tops you purchase can't be dried in a dryer due to shrinking- until recently.

I am most worried about finding nursing bras- I am hard to fit.  And Motherhood has a stupid return policy so I am afraid to buy them from there.

Anyway- good luck.  I don't have any advice if you need dress clothes or business wear.

Oh- Kohls is good in plus size- they don't have maternity our size, but the Daisy Fuentes brand and the Apt 9 are roomy, lots of comfy fabrics, and seem to be longer.  I have a couple shirts I wear all the time I bought non-preggo, and get compliments on them at baby stores and maternity shoppes all the time.  I would check there too- especially when they have a sale- which is about every other week.

  • I'm a 16/18 unless you're talking fitted shirts and then I'm a 22. Thanks boobs.

My maternity clothes are from old navy (t-shirts) and Motherhood. My only problem with Motherhood is that I have shirts ranging from XL to 3X! Their sizing is crap IMO, especially when it comes to fiting boobs.

I have a pair of capris that I LOVE from JCPenney's (Duo I think is the line), but my MIL bought them at a thrift store so I don't know if they still sell them.

I've also had pretty good luck with stretchy empire waist shirts from non-maternity department stores. Granted, it's pretty hard to find empire shirts that can hold my boobs in the first place, but if they can do that then the belly isn't usually an issue. Empire shirts tend to be long too so they still cover me. Not sure they'll last all the way to the end, but they've gotten me to 32 weeks very nicely.
