Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Mthfr

So with everything this kinda got overlooked. ?We lost our daughter because of a chromosome disorder; Monosomy X. ?My doc was glad to tell me that this is quite common and shouldn't lead to more problems in future pgs. ?She mentioned that my blood tests came back positive for something called mthfr, and that it wasn't a big deal I would juat need to take folic acid during the future pgs. ?Well I was very sick n messed up after we lost our daugther and the doc never made that sound like something I should b worried about soi kinda forgot about it. ?But then I looked it up last night and it sounds pretty bad. ? Like this loss could happen to me all over again. ?Does anyone else have any experience with this?????

Re: Mthfr

  • I am homozygous for MTHFR.  My dr put me on Folgard while I am ttc on top of my normal prenatal vitamin.  I will also be on aspirin *if* I ever get pg again.  I have had two normal pg before my two recent losses..

  • Is the mthfr the reason for your losses?
  • I was told that it's only an issue if your homocystine level is elevated.  I have 2 copies and take baby asprin and extra folic acid.  GL!
  • I have two copies as well, and take extra folic acid. After this most recent loss, we may be looking to add baby aspirin/lovenox to the mix or consult with a hematologist. There seems to be conflicting reports about how to treat MTHFR & it's possibly effects on a pg. I'm not too concerned about it, but we are just trying to get a better understanding on where the medical community stands. Upwards of 20% of the population has it, however it seems to really come up for woman who are trying to get pg. There are a ton of women on the ttcal and sal boards with this as well.
