So I have a very busy little girl and I am contemplating flying to visit some friends later next month and I have never traveled with small kids.
I'm wondering if we have to pay for a seat for her? When I look to price tickets in the minor or child section it only has children 2 and up. I know that she would not sit on my lap the entire trip, (let alone 5 minutes) So would I have to buy a seat for her also? And should I use her carseat on the plane? Sorry I'm a ditz
Re: flying with 20 month old - dumb questions
If you want a seat for her, yes you have to pay for it. Some airlines give a small discount. You are only required to buy a seat after age 2.
Every child is different, but with DS it is easiest to get him a seat but not bring the carseat. That way he has more room sitting in between us and can sit on our lap when the seatbelt light is on. It also depends on how long the flight is and if they will need to sleep. DS sleeps fine on my lap, other DC's need the carseat to sleep.
You are not required to buy her a seat unless she is 2 yo. That being said, if you want to get her a seat, thats up to you.
Last year, when DD was 7mo, we flew across the country and did not buy her a seat but were lucky enough that there were open seats on the plane and we put her carseat in a seat between me and DH.
Next month we are flying cross country again and we decided to get DD a seat, even though shes 18mo because we didnt think she'd sit on our lap for the 5+ hr flight.
How long is your flight?
We would be flying from Seattle to Vegas so its only a little over a 2 hour flight.

For 2 hours, I would just keep him on your lap.
I don't think she would handle that. I can barely get her to stay on my lap for 5 minutes! We'll see what we can do.
