Anon Clicky Poll: If you have a boy (all boys), what do you hope for next?

My cousin made a comment of FB last night that she hopes very much that she has a girl next (she has a son and is newly pg) because "every mom wants at least one daughter". I was thinking back to when I was pg w/ DD, before we knew she was a girl, and I was leaning waaay towards hoping for a boy so I guess that's not true for all women. But maybe because I had a girl first I just won't know that internal pressure to have one next?

If you already have a son/sons and if you were to describe which way you may be leaning right now, would you say you are hoping for a girl or another boy?

  • Special Snowflake:

I voted Boy, because I already have all boy clothes and stuff and whatnot.

But I secretly pine for a girl so I can name her after my grandmother.

  • I voted boy because we are only having two kids and I think because of that I would love my son to have a brother and best friend. Plus I just find boy's easier. My DH on the other hand wwants a girl

  • In my ideal world, I'd have four children...the first three being boys followed by my one girl.  That way she'll have three built-in bodyguards!

However, I wouldn't be heading to the gender disappointment website if #2 were a girl!

  • We're not having another child, so I've never considered this. However, when I was pregnant I was somewhat hoping for a girl. I realized that it's just human nature to want to share your favorite aspects of your childhood with your child. And my favorite parts of childhood are somewhat girly - Black Stallion and Trixie Belden books, horseback riding, My Little Ponies, etc. I do think that I can convince him to read Black Stallion books, but I'm sure he won't be cool reading Trixie Belden or brushing the hair of his My Little Ponies.
  • Our girl name was picked before our wedding date. We both want a little girl.
  • I can't really vote cuz I have both already. I wanted a girl so bad after DS that it made me crazy though. I think I would have cried if it had been another boy. Iknow that sounds nuts but I really wanted a girl! Of course i love DS just the same and would for all boys we have, but thats just how it was. Now that we have a boy and 2 girls we are hoping for another boy when we get pregs again :)
  • I voted Boy, only because I feel EXTREME pressure to 1) have another child and 2) for it to be a girl.  I HATE it.  It's one reason I'm not jumping on the bandwagon to have more.  Even DH said he'd be disappointed if it was another boy.  WTF?  He wanted DS to be a girl, too.  He loves him, but seriously, I don't get how you could be disappointed in ANY child, regardless of sex.

  • Flame if you will, but I can't ever imagine being pregnant and hoping it's a girl. I would be fine with having a girl (and by "fine" I mean perfectly happy and not disappointed at all), but I want all boys. I was a teenage girl and have no desire to ever have one! I was beyond happy that Robbie was a boy and even more excited that this baby is a boy. Hopefully they will get along great and be best friends!
  • I'd love another boy.  However, I will not be dissapointed for a girl! In a perfect world I'd like a boy next, then a girl. No real reasoning.

  • As a mom of 2 boys, and on my 3rd pregnancy, I would be lying if I said I wasn't hoping for a girl.

I love my boys so much, but I got to experience all of that fun (and I still am) 2 times now. I have always wanted a little girl and I would have been slightly sad if this baby was a boy, especailly since this might be our last.

  • I can't answer the poll since I don't have a boy (yet? I dunno). But I tend to agree with you... I think I have less concern this time around because I had a girl first (I did want at least one girl). I'm 'mostly' ok with not even finding out the sex this time around per DH's request even... I think if I'd had a boy first there's no way I wouldn't be able to find out and I'd probably really hope it was a girl.

Granted, maybe if I had a boy first I'd be more comfortable with that and would want another... lol guess it's hard to say.

  • I want a girl next because I have always wanted one of each.  I grew up with all sisters and was always jealous of my friends with brothers.

omg. is there such a thing?!

i voted girl because i would like to have one of each and just in case things change and we are unable to have a third, i would like to have the girl next. i will be trying the shettles method (worked for a fried who had a girl after 3 boys) for that girl, but if it turns out to be a boy, i will be ecstatic to get to use all the clothes again. i have a shopping problem and dek has no less than three 18 gallon rubbermaids filled with clothes to date. :(

This exactly.  All boys would be fine with me.  People keep asking if I am hoping for a girl, and I feel like I have to humor them.

  • I have a girl.

But I am lucky in a sense I have two step sons. So DH is cool if we only have girls. I don't feel any pressure to keep having kids etc.

I am not sure what I want. Just healthy I guess. After trying for so long I am just grateful for a baby and don't care as long as they are healthy.

I am not sure I am supposed to have a boy. I think I would be that MIL :/ and not be able to help it.

  • I voted girl b/c I saved my recital costumes, prom dresses, dolls and other items so it would be fun to pass that on to a little girl. BUT after having DS, I would be perfectly content to have only boys.  He is so awesome that it has seriously curbed my desire for a girl.
  • i have a whole herd of boys, so i think it's only natural that i'd love a girl if we have another. but honestly, i just want a kid that looks different. i want to see a different way our DNA can combine, so whether that's a girl or a boy, i don't really care.

(of course this is most likely a moot point, since we have no room for more kids!)

I couldn't have said it better myself.  I hope we have another boy.  I would be thrilled w/ a girl, but certainly not disappointed w/ another little man.  I also agree that the thought of a teenage girls scares me!

  • DH and I both want boys.
  • I voted girl.  I dunno, in a former life I was a ballerina and I've always figure skated, pretty girly things...I really can't see my son in a dance recital (hey, who knows though, right?)  I would LOVE to take a daughter to dance classes or figure skating lessons rather than hockey practice...

Now that I have a boy though, I can totally see how much fun we are going to have.  And having another one would be absolutely okay with me.  But yeah, I'm hoping the next one is a girl.

  • Boys.  I would be content having all boys.

A small part of my desires a girl when I see cute pink clothes, but then I remember what teenage girls are like and I get back into boy mode.

I am a great boy mom, I would be a really horrible girl mom, in all honesty.

  • I honestly have no preference. ?I really wanted a boy and got him so I'm fine with whatever God gives me! ?I can see how either a boy or girl next would be loads of fun! ?I secretly want 4 children and I'd be with whatever mix :)
  • I didn't vote b/c I honestly don't care.  I'll be happy either way.

    me too!

  • I voted for girl, but could have easily clicked on boy, too. I go back and forth. Part of me really wants a little girl to do "girly" things with, and I have always wanted to raise a daughter.

But, now that we have DS, I can picture another boy with him, and that makes me really happy. I would love for him to have a brother. We are only planning on one more child, so either way I will be happy!

  • I voted boy...but we actually aren't having another. I KNEW ds was a boy from the moment I got pregnant and I was so glad that turned out to be the case. I wanted a boy so badly and that's what I would want for our second.

  • I had always wanted a boy first, which we have. We "tried" for a DS when we TTC'd. I've always said I'd be happy with either both or just boys. I just love little boys. I am very girly but I never felt the need to have a DD like a lot of women do. I can totally appreciate that way of thinking though.

An older friend of mine says she pictures me as one of those mothers of all boys whose sons dote on her. I like that. ;)

  • Boy. I would like to have two boys and they'll hopefully grow up being best friends. If all goes as planned, DS will be about 2 1/2 when #2 arrives, so they'll be close enough in age to play together, but DS will still be older enough to be the big brother.

That said, I would also be perfectly fine with a girl. I guess I'm a special snowflake and sort of fine with whatever. Big Smile

  • It *really* doesn't matter to me.

I love my son. I love the special bond that he and I have, and I would love to have it with another little man!

At the same time, it would be great to have a girl and have the awesome relationship that my mom and I have.

    So, I can't pick one.

    I like privacy. A lot.
  • Well, I had the opposite. I had a girl, knew Ben was my last child and hoped he was a boy.

    And WTF is Special Snowflake?!

  • I'm sort of hoping #2 is a boy, we find out in about 3 weeks. ?If it's a girl, I'll be thrilled about that too, but I'd love for DS to have a brother. ?DH grew up without a brother and my brother was the only boy in our family too, and they both say they wish they'd had a brother. ?Plus, we have everything we need for a boy. ?

I don't have that "must have a girl" desire. ?I'll love a daughter if I have one, but I'm very very happy having all boys, too.?

  • Since we are only having two, my selfish side wants me to have a girl. However, I think Quentin would be happier with having a brother.
I know I'm way closer to my sisters than my brothers.
    Guess we'll see!
  • I didn't vote because I am still not sure if I care...

I adore my DS; I already have all the boy stuff and it would be fun for DS to have a brother.  On the other hand, I was hoping for a girl the first time around and would love to daughter to have the kind of close relationship that I have with my mom and sister.

  • I felt the same way you do about the pressure being off b/c I had a boy first, so it probably just depends on the woman.  I desperately wanted a boy.  We're planning on three children & I'm hoping for another boy & a girl.  If I had the girl next, I definitely think it would lessen the pressure of hoping for a girl the last time.  I've always thought if I had to choose one or the other, I'd rather have all boys than all girls though, so I'll be just as happy no matter how it goes.

  • Yep voted a girl but of course another little boy would be spectacular. I don't think I'd ever post anything public (ahem... except for this) that I secretly want a girl in fear that if i have a boy he'd find out down the road.
