i've never really been a label reader....
at what number do you consider an item to be too carby or too sugary? peanut butter i think is 3g of sugar and 7 carb...is that ok?
also, i read that someone on here eats no sugar added ice cream. i looked at it in the store and i think it was 13g carb and 4g sugar. i didn't buy it bc i wasn't sure if i should so i went w the sugar free popsicles instead.
i know i'll get more info at the class, but this is going to be a long week until i can get there!
Re: need help with label reading please!!!!
Look at the serving size and then look at the Total carbs #. This tell you how many carbs are in each serving.
You will be given the amount of carbs you are allowed to have per meal and per snack. For me meals I can have 30-45grams and for snacks 15-30grams.So what I do is serve my self the serving size per total carbs that keeps me with in my limits.
GL!
It can be overwhelming but try not to stress! I developed Type 1 Diabetes last year, after my first baby, so I can try to help! Don't pay any attention to the sugar...all that matters is the total carbs (I also subtract the fiber from the carbs, but there are diff. schools of thought on this, so ask your endo).
I know it sounds counterintuitive to not pay real attn to sugar, but it is really total carbs that you are counting and watching. Are you on insulin or just watching your diet? You can eat the no sugar added ice cream, but just so you know all of those foods have artificial sweeteners in them, which I don't do while pregnant, but to each his own. It is a boring life while pregnant if you avoid them
Good luck!
At this point, it's just diet modification. My OB told me that she's fine with artificial sweetners, just no sweet and low.
Its difficult trying to find low carb foods when you aren't really used to it! I'm sure things will be much easier after I take the GD ed. class.
Are those numbers (45g of carbs) per meal or per day?
Per meal
Ummmm....Type 2 maybe? I thought you were born with type 1.
thanks!! that helps a lot! i was looking more at sugar content. and the 30-45g per meal helped me tremendously until i get a diet more tailored to me personally.
I wasn't diagnosed with type 1 until I was 21 years old. So.... it's possible to not be *diagnosed* with it till later in life.
