Shoes without socks?

Is this a no no for babies? I don't mean sandals obviously, I mean like slip on type shoes. Would you put socks on LO with them? Fashion wise socks may look silly, but do you think his feet will hurt w/o them? I am thinking of DS' bday party tomorrow and want to run out to get him new shoes, don't want to get the side eye from family like why is LO not wearing socks! Also, DS' isn't walking yet

I basically think of it as my own shoes, whether or not I would wear socks with them. Her ugly croc shoes, no way, but her Nike ones, or anything "dressy," etc, then I do.
