2nd Trimester

Not feeling movement...nervous

I know it's early for me yet but for the last week or week and a half I started to feel the "fluttering" a lot. I asked the doc if it was too early and she said no, it usually starts between 13 and 18 weeks. Yesterday and today I felt nothing. No movement at all. I'm worried. Should I be? Once you feel it do you feel it every day? I wish I had a u/s machine at home for all my freak out moments

  • Still early, don't expect regular movement until your in the 20+ range.

  • Don't be worried - you are still very early.  A lot of people don't feel consistent movement until much later!!  Just relax and I'm sure they'll be kicking you to death in a few weeks.

  • I feel it a lot one day and then nothing for like 3 days.  I think you don't get regular movement until 24 weeks or so.

  • Are you sure it wasn't growing pains (stretching, pulling) that you felt?  The two pregnancy books I have say you don't feel movement until between 18-22 weeks.  20 weeks is the average.

The baby starts moving very early on - but you just don't feel it until closer to 20 weeks.  I wouldn't worry.  If you call your doctor, i bet they will tell you the same thing and it will reassure you.

Agreed. I didn't feel the first movement until 4 days ago, and I haven't felt anything since. It's fine. It's still way too early for it to be consistent.

  • It is still really early. You could go days without feeling LO. My doctor informed not to worry about counting kicks until week 28.

  • At this point you won't feel movement regularly. Don't worry. Like the PP said, regular movement is usually felt between 17-22 weeks. Some earlier, some later. Hang in there.?
  • It's still early.  I would not worry yet.  I felt flutters around 16 weeks but did not feel every day movement until 20 - and there are still days where I don't feel as much activity.
  • Mine started around 13 weeks too, but, it hasn't been every day. Actually, I just felt it yesterday for the first time in about 4-5 days. I hear from girls further along that it doesn't get consistent and every day till about 25 weeks. Guess we just have to hang in there!

I definitely felt movement at 16 weeks. Not regularly, but definitely often enough. I think this might be a little off.

You are very early, don't worry about not feeling movement everyday. It will get to the point when you know when to expect it!

  • Still early to feel anything on a regular basis.?
  • I can understand your pov, but you're early still, no worries.  At 14 weeks, I felt nothing.  You'll be fine.  Just try to relax.

  • Thanks ladies! I feel better now. It just sucks. I was feeling lots now nothing. I guess I got spoiled. lol. I was even yelling "wake up and kick me" last night.
  • Try not to worry.  You are still VERY early.  I know a lot of girls on here do feel something at 14 weeks, but the majority do not for their first child.  The first time I felt anything at all was 17w 5d and I wasn't sure it was the baby until it happened several more times over the course of the next week.

And while it often happens by week 18, it's not at all uncommon for some women to wait until 20 weeks or longer.

Don't stress yet!  I'm sure you are fine!
