I've got GD

I just found out yesterday evening that I failed the 3 hr test.   I hope to be hearing from the dietitian today to set up a meeting so she can explain what i am supposed to do.  The nurse at the dr's office just said not to eat sweets and watch carbs.  That is not enough instruction for me, but i guess it will have to do for now.  I have been reading through the posts on here and it seems like it is fairly common on this board, so that makes me feel a little  better.  Between this and the possibility of PIH i think it is going to be a long 13 weeks.

Re: I've got GD

  • I found out yesterday too, and am also waiting for a call back from the dietician. So I can't help much, but I can sympathize with you.

I have found a lot of info on this board, but obviously that's not a substitute for talking to a professional. Hope you (and I) hear back soon!

  • I have GD and PIH... its tolerable.  Honestly, the diet really isn't that bad.  It wasn't even much of a change for me - so unless you are eating solely ice cream, it's not that bad!!

    Good luck!

  • i'm right there with ya girl!  i found out yesterday too and until i take "the class" i have no idea what i am supposed to eat.  i bought some low sugar and sugar free items at the store last night and am fumbling through.  seems like all the drs are the same, "you have GD!  go home and abstain from sweets and carbs.  you can eat protein and vegetables."  not helpful!

  • If you ladies have any questions, feel free to ask! I have only been here a few weeks, but the more experienced ladies and myself will be more than happy to help. I was panicking and asking tons of questions not that long ago. :)
  • Ditto. I've got GD too, and this is my 2nd go round with it.  I'm too waiting to meet with a dietician.  In the meanwhile, I've been told to test my blood, fasting and after every meal.  Too bad, my machine meter reader is malfunctioning and it will be 3-5 days before I receive my new one.  Ugh.  I just want to feel better, so hopefully I can get some clarity soon.  As all of us in the same situation.
