Vaginal Exam already??

Hi Ladies!

I had my growth u/s today which went well. She is measuring 4lb3oz :)

My question is my dr said at my next appointment that she would do an exam... No explanation of what type really, she just told my hubby he didnt have to come, so im assuming its a pants off exam! I will be 33w4d. Doesnt that seem too early to start checking my cervix?

 The baby was measuring 5 days further along so could that be why? Have any of you had cervix checks this early???

    my doc said i'll probably start getting intenal checks at 34 weeks

    I still haven't had one, and I wouldn't have one at the point you are at for sure.  The only thing I have taken my pants off for is my GBS test.  My next one will be an internal I guess.  I can't imagine why your doc would want to do one so early.

    I think early for an internal. I did do my strep test last week which is a swab. Maybe your doctor just checks while he is down there.

    I was checked at 33 weeks also for the first time.  OB said she wanted to check bc I was contracting and also because at the begining of my pregnancy my cervix was soft and I had some bleeding. She confirmed that my cervix had thickened well throughout pregnancy.

    Honestly, unless it is your GBS test I would decline there is no need for one this early. Just ask why and if there isn't a good enough reason you might as well wait.

    My midwife didn't even mention it until 37 weeks and I declined but opted for one the next week because I wont have one at 39 weeks.

    I'd deny an internal at 34 weeks.

    Hell, I'm planning on denying them until 40 weeks.?

    Some Drs just start them extremely early.  Mine starts internals at 32 weeks- I will have my 3rd internal at my appointment tomorrow.

    Oh i didnt think about the strep test... didnt really know what they did to check that. She didnt say she was going to check my cervix but i didnt know why else she would need down there!!

    u/s today showed my cervix was 4 cm long and sealed tight and i doubt that will change much in 2 weeks.

    That seems really early for an internal, I would decline. My OB does the GBS test at 35 weeks and then does internals after 36. I would definitely not get one before then unless it is absolutely necessary.

    Unless you have contractions or some other issue, I would decline. There's just no point to them. At least talk to your OB and find our what she wants to do and what the point of it is. Does the state of your cervix really matter at 33 weeks? I don't think it does.
