We won a free session, but his normal fee was $75 for the session. Prints are insane!! Make sure to find out how much you'll have to pay for prints or if you're able to get a CD (with a copyright release) to have your own prints done.
Eek! The place we are going to on Friday is a $15 sitting fee (per person) and if you want to review the pictures online its $50 deposit. Or you can order that day but the prints are the part that kill you.
oh boy I think we paid too much!! we had photog come to our house for 3hrs and had two other children including ours for $300($100each). Then we purchased all rights to the photos for $150...all in $250.00 no print costs yet.
we are very happy w/his work, but Im not telling my dh we paid a bit much!
We have a $50 sitting fee, and if you want the CD it's $150, but you can put that $150 towards prints. Our 8x10's sell for $10.99, so our print prices are very reasonable. I think it's crazy to charge $30 for an 8x10.
For DD's one year pics we paid a $300 sitting fee and that included a $150 print credit. IMO, there's a big difference between shoot and burn (when they just give you a CD of images) and quality custom photographers, although I think they both have their place.?
If the person is just starting to build their portfolio, I think $60 is a fair price.?

I agree. We've gone to Sears for "cheap" photos because it was time to get them done and I didn't want to spend a bunch, and it wasn't a memorable occasion. The pictures are good. But we've also gone on vacation and paid a pro to take photos on the beach for a few hours. They are of a completely different quality, and the service I get in choosing photos and making changes to crops etc are great. The last fee we paid was $100 for the session. An 8x10 was $20.
$250 sitting fee and she included free 8x10 pic. I really thought it was worth it. She shot for just over 2 hours and I know there is editing and file back-up, etc. that photogs have to do after the shoot so, I think the price is ok (for a GOOD photographer, that is). Pics came out awesome.

as long as all the images that are burned are edited - then id rather have that. i dunno - i would never pay "per picture" to be printed off when i can do that for myself when i want to, kwim?
Brit's right, there's a place for every type and finding people who are building their portfolios can sometimes be a hidden gem I charged $50 and sold the CD for $50 when I started out, now my session fee is $125 (with a 25 print credit), I'd never give away a cd of my work for free or cheap now, too many hours go into the work for that. I charge $350 for a session CD or $35 per digital file. I have an ok stream of customers, I'm not concerned... honestly it just depends what YOU are looking for. If you just want some pretty good pics then go for the cheap price, what you really pay for with a reputable pro photog is their specific talent and eye. Editing and photo types vary so much
Re: Pro Photog pricing
I paid $160. That price included the session, 15 images on a cd and the 15 images printed as 4X6's. My photog ended up taking 160+ pictures.
whoa! thats a lot. glad you just got your own camera
lol. she did great work though.
but yeah, me too!
