My DH and I are having sticker shock looking at daycares and wanted to research the possibility of a nanny or in-home care and someone at work suggested SitterCity.
I checked out the website and it seems pretty cool although it only let me see minimal information until I signed up, which I think involves a monthly fee?
anyone use this service? thoughts? or is there somewhere else you can search for in-home childcare?
thx!!
Re: what have you heard about SitterCity.com?
I have heard good things about sittercity from friends who have used it for babysitters and part-time Mother's helpers. I was actually planning to use it to find our nanny, but ended up hiring a friend's niece instead.
FYI - a full-time nanny is usually more than daycare (approx $12-$13/hr - in Chicago). Another possiblity is a nanny share with a family with a child about the same age in the same neighborhood, which usually drops to $8/hr each child. That is a nice option financially and socially as the child gets older, but there are logistical things to consider with who hosts, baby nap schedules, food allergies/restrictions, and a nanny who can juggle 2 kids and 2 employers at the same time! Good luck!
Not true for sittercity.com. There are high schoolers on the site and if you want a check it is up to you to get it done, although you can do it through the website.
I found a nanny job through the website and didn't have any problems with it from that perspective. Although for my area it doesn't have a whole lot of people signed up.
Another one to try might be care.com. That one has a lot more nannies and sitters available in my area. It just gives you another one to try.
