TTC After a Loss

CD1 and annoyed at RE already

I'm so annoyed with Dr's

AF came this morning to greet me, still no word from OB on those beta tests, but I know they're neg now.

AND the RE wants me to stay on 50 mg clomid instead of upping it... and get a Sono Histogram!

I have no idea why I would need that, and why stay on 50 if it hasn't been working?

Re: CD1 and annoyed at RE already

  • I would ask her that question directly.  If you don't like what they are doing then change Dr's and find someone who will listen to you.  I am so sorry this is so hard!

  • Have you gone in and spoke with the RE?  I would think you could tell them whats going on and they'd work with you on upping the dose.  Maybe thats just their standard of practice, not to up clomid until an HSG is done?

Totally agree.  I know the RE's have lots more training in this dept than we do but I believe you have to ask questions and be active in your treatment. Bottom line is that it's your body and you have a right to question their methods, especially if you feel an alternate course of action should be followed.

  • I second the asking of more questions.  My RE won't prescribe clomid until I have an HSG.

I'm sorry AF showed, I tried to make her leave the country.

  • As PP said, definitely ask WHY the RE is suggesting that course.  Sometimes I think these doctors just pull these treatment plans out of their arses.

  • The thing is that I had an HSG... she said no, that's the dye test and they need to do the "fluid" test that looks at the uterus.

There's nothing wrong with my ute!  I had a successful pg like a yr ago!

  • I understand your frustration completely. But this will hopefully rule out any scarring or deformity in the uterus before you proceed with more fertility treatment.

My RE just now decided to do a HSG after 3 failed IUI's and I wish we had done it back in Dec with my SHG. I agree about the dosage though. You should definitely ask RE.

I'm really sorry you are frustrated. I really hope you get some answers so you can feel confident about your next steps.

    ((Hugs))

    02/08 BFP resulted in m/c 4/10/08 (11 weeks)

  • Theres no excuse for not getting that beta to you - most RE's wont let you start meds until you have a negative beta. I might be wrong but it seems like you've been on clomid for a few months? What about switching to a low dose of follistim or gonal-f? Its more expensive but not that much if you are only on 75 a day. This med actually builds up your lining, unlike clomid, and a lot of people feel like it helps with egg quality. Just a thought.

Thanks ginger... I'm trying a clomid one more month before moving on to that, but I'm sure its in my future soon.

How are the shots?  Do you know how much it is if I'd only be on 75 a day?

  • They are so painless and easy. I cant look at needles usually but I do it myself and the needles are short and so thin you really do not even feel them go in at all. I dont know the exact price but a 300 unit pen is about $280.00 but usually has an extra 100-125 units in it so it would last you about 5 days on 75. You get more overfill on the 300's then the 600's or 900's so always order 300's. If you use it you will get a script for more then enough. I never order all of it just in case I dont need it, if I find I need more I will call the pharmacy and have them overnight me another cartridge. I think your with an OB but most RE's have extra's that successful insured IVF'rs donate back to the clinic. Be really really nice to your nurse and ask about this. I know its more but if your already paying OOP for BW and US injectables do give you a better chance. One note about follistim or gonal - most DR's say you cant ovulate without trigger while using them. Not true. I still use OPKs and have had positive OPK's on follistim so I would call and go in for an IUI right away. GL!
