nail biting?

Anyone else had this issue come up already? DS always has his fingers in his mouth now that he is cutting his 2 year molars (he is 21 months) and now we've noticed he's actually biting his nails as well.

There are a million reasons I want to discourage this behavior but I'm not really sure how to go about it... I don't want to put anything on his fingernails, at least not what I could buy at the pharmacy, as I'm guessing they're not full of stuff I really want him to be ingesting. I know they're FDA approved as safe to ingest but we're pretty careful about what we let him eat/drink and what products and chemicals we use on him and in our home. Does anyone have any other ideas?
