Tell me I will survive

Please tell me I will survive the four month wakeful period. Because right now I want to crawl into a hole and not wake up until Christmas. Sleep

Nolan was sleeping so well there for awhile, sometimes 8 or 9 hours at a stretch. But the last two weeks or so he has been waking up every 2.5 to 3 hours at night just wailing. I don't know if it is a growth spurt or sore gums or what, but the only thing that will calm him down is the boob. Uggggh, I wish I knew how much longer this was going to last.

Thanks for letting me vent.

Re: Tell me I will survive

  • I know the feeling my LO did this from 3.5 months to almost 5.5 months.  Once we ruled out everything, growth spurt, teething, devlopmental milestones, we sleep trained.  Now he wakes up 2 times 2am and 5:30/6am for feedings.  It sucks but I didn't feel right doing anything until I knew it was a sleep association and not any of the other things mentioned above.  You will survive...

  • You will survive!!!  I promise!  All of us with toddlers here can promise that you will get through this.

I really don't remember how we survived during those night wakings... I think that's when we started co-sleeping full time for awhile.  I just needed more sleep and I felt like I got more sleep when he was in our bed.  Then once that period passed, we moved him back into the crib again.

  • You will!! Did he have shots recently as well? That bad sleeping lasted about 2-3 weeks, and then when Jocelyn hit 5 months she started sleeping 12 hours. We also started solids at 5 months and I think that helped. All though lately she has been waking up at 5:30am for no reason, but that is after going to bed at 6:30pm!

  • You will survive, but I remember those exact feelings. It was aweful - the worst part of the first year in my opinion. During this time is when I learned to do the side-lying position for the middle of the night feedings. That way I could fall back asleep while he was nursing (which he always fell back asleep too). Then, when I woke up at some later point I'd go put him back in his crib.

Wishing you lots of sleep SOON!!!

Yes, he had his 4 month shots last Friday. But this crappy sleeping pattern started a few days before his shots. I'm sure the shots didn't help his sleeping though.

  • You will survive!  Though, without a doubt it is horrible.  We struggled with Liam from about 4 months to 8 months when I finally broke down and did CIO.  This brought him back to manageable night wakings (1 to 2 instead of 3-4+).  I totally feel for you, and I hope Nolan is sleeping better again soon!

  • Hang in there. I know it is tough waking in the middle of the night and trying to work the next day.  Make up for this weekend and sleep when he sleeps. Hopefully he will get back on schedule sooner than later!
  • You can do it!  Keep up the good work Mommy!
  • You will survive! DS did the exact same thing, I want to say it lasted about 1.5-2 weeks. He is still waking up 2x most nights, but at least I usually get a 4-6 hour stretch at a time.
