Re: bmw X5 or lexus rx350 owners?

  • I have a bmw but not an X5 but I think I can help you out on this one. I personally love the X5 and BMW as a whole. If you are buying one brand new you can not beat the warranty. The warranty covers EVERYTHING (except for tires so be sure you purchase the seperate tire warranty because they are very expensive) ! I come from a bmw family so I vote BMW. but for me most important would be space and I would compare the warrantys because both are expensive vehicles to repair.

  • I LOVE LOVE LOVE my X5! We decided to get the X5 over the Volvo XC90. We opted to get the 3rd row so it can seat 7 total. I love the iDrive system but we do wish we'd gotten the navigation system now (opted to not get it because we had just bought a Tom-Tom a month before we got the car).  It's very roomy, comfortable, and drives great.  It drives blocks out quite a bit of the outside noise while driving so it makes interstate driving much quieter (my old Nissan Altima was very loud on the interstate).  We also love the iPod connection and how you can control your iPod through the actual iDrive console.

DS is in an Evenflo Triumph Advanced and we have it rear facing in the middle of the 2nd row.  There is plenty room on either side for adult passengers to ride comfortably.  It's got 4 vents for the 2nd row seats and seperate vents for the 3rd row.  Ours came with awesome retractable shades on the back door windows and it really helps to keep the son out of his eyes.

Like PP said, the warranty is excellent.  We take it into a dealership for anything - routine maintenance, problems, etc.  Routine maintenance is also covered through the life of the warranty.  It's got lots of great features, and so far, I haven't found a single thing that I don't like about it.

    Good luck with your decision!!!

  • my dh has a bmw(not an x5), I have a lexus(rx300)..that being said we have a few friends that have the x5 and have commented about how stiff the ride is and are switching to the rx330 or acura mdx(3rd row seat).  I love my lexus and my dh also thinks my suv is a great vehicle and we plan to stick with them or toyota-same as lexus but alot less money.
  • I have the Lexus rx 470 (I think that is what it's called, I can't ever remember...it is the suv that is a little bigger) and I love, love, love it! If you do get a bmw, I recommend getting on with a warranty. I have had bmw's in the past (not the x5) and they have had a lot of problems. We had a hard time deciding between the x5 and the lexus, and I haven't had any regrets. Good luck!

  • I have the Lexus and used to have the Mercedes ML. I can tell you that the Lexus has a MUCH better ride. The ML almost rode like a truck. I really don't have anything negative to say about the car. There's a ton of room in the trunk and it fits my car seat (orbit) with room to spare. I'll have no problem getting two in there. I've had it for 4 years and have never regretted getting it. The only up side I could see with the BMW is that their routine maintenance is included, while you have to pay for all of your checks with Lexus. You have to do it, though, to keep up the warranty.?

    It's the GX 470.  :)

Anyhow, I've driven the RX many times and it drives like a car.  It's super smooth and I would always take a Toyota/Lexus over a BMW, any day.  Superior reliability.

That said, I currently have an Acura RDX (small SUV) and we're thinking of trading up for the MDX.  It's an awesome vehicle and I remember sitting in it in the dealership and thinking how spacious it was...it's another one you might want to consider.  When we bought the RDX the only option was with or without nav, and that's Acura's strong point IMO.  With Toyota/Lexus you have like 5 different models and 20 different options to consider and it's a hassle.
