Both my dogs went missing around 7:30 last night. They usually don't stray far and they always stay together (they're mother and son). We couldn't find them anywhere. I couldn't believe it when I went to bed last night without them. I drove around in the middle of the night because I couldn't sleep. This morning, one of them was brought home - alone and stinking of skunk. He looks completely traumatized. His mother is nowhere to be found. I had prepared myself for this possibly being the last year my oldest would be with us given that she has colon cancer and is 13. I am not prepared for never knowing what happened to her and always wondering if she is out there.
Anybody have an encouraging lost and found story about a pet?
Re: I think something bad happened to one of my dogs
I'm so sorry, I know you are worried. One of my co-workers had a cat that went missing for a week and then came home, so she might come back.
Our dog was really sick and actually went some what blind. She would kind of wander around during the day and at night we would lock her up and she still managed to get out. One night she got out and we couldn't find her anywhere. We looked everywhere seriously everywhere for our dog. So after a couple days we just decided she was gone and all were sad. Four days later, my mom was walking back home early morning (they milk cows just down the road) and their she was! Right next to her favorite spot. It was pretty much a miracle how that dog survived.
Hope your dog shows up. I know how importatnt pets can be...I'm almost crying thinking about her...she is now in doggy heaven
I am so sorry to hear about your dog - I know how pets are truly members of the family.
I had a cat that disappeared over one Memorial Day weekend. ?We looked for her, put up posters, but never heard anything. ?One morning during the next February, she just showed up at the back door! I let her in and she went right to the food dish like she had never been gone for 8 months! I hope your girl will come home safely to you too.
I'm really sorry to hear about this. Here's my encouraging story. My family got a dog when I was 2 1/2 years old, Puffy (that's what you get when you let a 2 year old name a fluffy white dog :-)). Puffy was still alive when I went away to college 16 years later. One day not long after I started college, she disappeared. My parents were frantic. At the time, my parents lived on an 8-acre piece of land that was surrounded by other large horse farms, so it made searching for her hard. Plus, she was almost deaf, so she couldn't hear them calling for her. They searched, talked to everyone who lived around us, put fliers up where the mail was delivered, called the pound, called all of the vets in the area with no luck. They were so afraid to tell me because they knew I would be devasted. Three days after she disappeared, my parents decided they had to tell me. Just as my mom called to tell me, she got a call on the other line and answered it. It was a man who lived about a mile away who had found Puffy stuck in some weeds on his property.
Hope that helps at least a little...
ETA: My parents have also had one of their cats disappear twice for a week at a time only to return home. So there is hope.
I'm sorry.... Here are two stories w/ happy endings:
When I was little, our mother cat (we had her son, too) disappeared for over one week. She was indoor/outdoor, we lived in the boonies, but she was ALWAYS home at mealtimes! Anyway, she reappeared after I think 10 days, perfectly fine. We never knew what happened or where she was....
Also, last May, I was taking my dog out for a walk, and we were rushed by two muddy, panting, friendly Huskies. They tried following my dog and me into our house, so I put up the gate on our deck, and called the local shelter. DH, doggie and I hung out w/these two wanderers until the shelter people came. They said they'd had reports of these dogs running around MILES from my house, and were hoping to catch them before they got hurt.... They brought them to the shelter, cleaned them up, and the frantic owners called hours later. The dogs- siblings- had escaped from their yard, but all ended well!
GOOD LUCK and keep us posted. I'll be thinking happy thoughts for you and your girl.
Thank you for all of the stories. They are really heart warming and very encouraging.
I'm hoping no news is good news.
