Hospital tour and birth class

DH and I went on our hospital tour this weekend. Why is it that the woman who has not given birth gives the most advice. There were many eye rolls among the 15 couples. I don't care what your first meal is going to be.

The same thing with birth class. I sat next to a guy who let everyone know about his wife having a c-section and how they were doing it. He even tried to give me advice on bottles when I asked the instructor a question. So I offered up "Are you breastfeeding as well"? I rescheduled a class so he would not be there.

Vent over...

  • This makes me glad I never did any of those things.

  • When we did our hospital tour, we were the only parents who intended on having a natural childbirth - no epidural, IV, etc - and there were a lot of eye rolls in our general direction when we asked about alternative options (birthing balls, showers, tubs, etc).

Based on that, we opted to skip the classes at the hospital except for breast feeding.

  • Ha! We just encountered this last night at our breastfeeding class. We get through 99% of the class...she had been explaining everything in detail but most of the last half hour was total repetition...probably so we would remember it. A guy that had been talking pretty much the whole time raises his hand and says " So when can she start breastfeeding? When does her milk come in?" ::::head desk ::: Pretty much the whole class was like WTF? We have been watching videos/having discussions about this for 3 hours now.  The instructor was much nicer about it than any other person in the class would have been.

  • This is the same exact reason we went to our first birthing class and then never went back for the rest.  Annoying!
  • Glad to hear I am not alone. I just have one mroe class and then I am set. I saw I can rent a lot of the videos on netflix!
  • My personal favorite is when people who dont have kids give me parenting advice.  Riiiiight, cause I'm going to listen to you.  haha

Are you delivering at Hoag?  We had a pretty good experience with our classes there.  But maybe it's just because my other "classmates" weren't idiots.  lol

  • Uggh that is what happened with my first daughter. I know you already took the class, but I totally recommend Sheri Bayles 3 part DVD. She's a little annoying, but the info is great and I had fun watching it with my hubby. I would bounce on my ball and he'd give me a back massage. We both started quizzing eachother by the third section.

  • I think we got lucky, the people in our classes have been pretty "normal" so we haven't had that problem.  But we have our last two classes next week, so I just hope that our good luck lasts.
  • After sitting through one Hoag baby class (first aid) with a major douchebag idiot in it, we changed our birthing classes to the private class. It was SO worth the extra money to get it done at once and have the nurse tailor the class to our needs, questions, and to avoid the stuff we are not considering. Fortunately the baby care basics class was full of normal people.

  • ha ha ha! with us, it wasn't the other students, it was the instructor. We escaped from the birthing class during the lunch break. he he he! The instructor kept trying to show DH how to massage me and comfort during labor and it jsut wasn't natural to us so it was annoying.
