So I have found eating a hard boiled at night helps with my numbers. Yesterday my fasting # was 104 and i thought it was because i did not test untill 10;15 so i got up @ 7:30 and tested and my # was 85 . Being on bed rest is allowing me to focus ( maybe too much) on my #. My day seems to be all around testing. I am afriad to add new things , I dont want to go over and have not yet . My DH says i cant keep eating the same things all the time.
How are you guys doing today?
Re: Tuesday GD check in
I sure do feel as though I live by the clock to make sure I eat at X intervals and test accordingly to when i ate. I also feel as though I eat the same things all the time, but it works and I don't want my #'s to be crazy or I don't want to take insulin all the time.
Happy to hear that your fasting are going down with having a snack in the evening..I tried everything for my fasting #'s but I just needed some medical intervention so hence being put on insulin.
I feel good today. DH and I went out for a date (steak dinner - YUM!). I had 2/3 of my steak, 1/2 of the mashed potatoes, 1/2 of the green beans, and 3 bites of cheesecake - and my number was 120! We walked a local mall for about 20 minutes afterwards (I needed to get a few things). Endo's office called this AM, and no changes to my NPH - still 20 units at bedtime.
I found that when I was still diet controlled, having a mostly/all protein snack at bedtime helped with my fasting numbers also. It was actually suggested by the endo to do this - and it worked for a while.
My problem is that sometimes I don't balance my carbs with enough protein - STILL - and my numbers reflect that. I look forward to a time when I'm not watching the clock and everything I put in my mouth - but at the same time, I'm very thankful for the healthy habits I've picked up and implemented during this time. I think they'll help me ward off Type 2 in the long run.

I had Wendy's for lunch yesterday. I needed a break from my wheat toast and peanut butter regimen.
I had a spicy chicken filet and caesar side salad. My 2-hour number was 103
Yay fast food.
Yes, you should be eating more carbs in my opinion. My diet allows for 45 (3 piece of bread) grams at meals and 30 at snacks and I try to hit those numbers. You need the energy!!
My numbers have been good this am, and I even ate a slice of pb silk cake with a glass of reduced fat milk before bed last night.
ladysingstheblues, I may have to try the ck sandwich out now, its my favorite thing at wendys, but I haven't tested it out yet to see what my numbers would be.
for the one wondering about ck mcnuggets, I have tried a 6 peice with maybe 10 fries and sweet and sour sauce, and my number was 106 that night. Again, its all on a individual level, but just wanted to let you know.
I had my one week follow-up with the dietician this morning... so far my numbers look good but my fasting does seem to be a tad bit of an issue (93 this morning, my cut off is 90, I've been averaging 85), so we're going to continue to watch it.
As she pointed out to me, I am thankfully "close to the end" so if I can push through it then I should be good to go. I hate living my life on this schedule. I really hate thinking this much about food. And to top it all off, I'm down 3lbs in the last week - bringing my grand total weight gain for the pregnancy as 9lbs. I wasn't overweight pre-pregnancy, I was ordered to gain weight... my OB is going to love this.

I've been struggling with a craving for breakfast cereal. I experimented with using watered down greek yogurt (10g protein) with some cereal... the carb count works out fine, but my blood sugar does not. <sigh>
I also worry that my numbers seem to be creeping up. Still in the right range, but not as low as they used to be. I go back to the OB tomorrow, we'll see what he says.
Wait, is that ALL the carbs you had yesterday? I don't think that's good. My dietician said to not skip any carbs unless my number was really high, and even then just reduce it by one serving, not skip carbs completely.
I was just diagnosed yesterday with GD. And I met with the diabetes center today. So, I just started meal planning tonight. For dinner we had sirloin beef strips with peppers, tomatoes, onions, pineapple and 2 tbsp of sweet and sour sauce over rice. I was a little nervous about the sweet and sour sauce. It has a lot of sugar, but I did not use the full serving size. But when I tested my blood 2 hrs after dinner, it was 103. So I was really excited about that.
I am looking forward to trying the chicken sandwich from Wendy's. That sounds yummy.
My main issue right now is trying to plan my meals. It probably took my husband and I a hour to make my snacks and lunch for tomorrow. Gosh!! Talk about overwhelming!!
Today I met with my nutritionist for the first time. That had some interesting outcomes. First she did not like the testing meter I was using (Tru Track), she said it doesn't work well for pregnant women but is fine for other diebetics. Sure enough we tested me on their meter and mine was 10 points higher than theirs. I couldn't believe it but it makes sense why I have never had a low number. So now I am using the one they gave me.
Also she is recommending I going on disability now rather than later. So we'll see if my OB will go for that. But she does have a point I am not eating at appropriate times and am not able to get my snacks in because of my weird work schedule.
It was really nice to get a better feel for this diet and she said I made her life so much easier with all the research and info I got on my own... so thanks ladies!
