To buy or not to buy? Bottle Warmer...

Hi ladies!  I'm just wondering if a bottle warmer is worth buying or not?  If you don't use a warmer how do you prefer to warm up your bottles?

Thanks!! :)

Re: To buy or not to buy? Bottle Warmer...

  • I LOVE my car bottle warmer! It's great for when we're out and need to feed her without the appropriate place to bf (I'm not ready to NIP yet).

However at home...I mircrowave. Flame away but I'll still do it. DD is fine.

  • Loading the player...
  • We give DS room temp bottles but heat them up at night because the powdered formula mixes better with warm water and I think it helps him sleep.  We make bottles on demand so sometimes he is too starving to wait for the warmer.

  • Wait.  You can always get it later.  In the beginning I just used a cup of hot water and that worked great...then I realized DS isn't picky and he'll take a cold bottle just as well.
  • we serve at room temperature... but may be getting one when I go back to work so I can make a big batch of formula in the morning and nanny only has to poor into the bottle, warm and serve.

  • Nope, I used to use warm tap water...but just decided it doesn't really matter, the baby doesn't have a preference when they are born b/c they haven't had anything b4. My ds drinks it room temp and he doesn't mind.

  • We just bought one like 2 weeks ago when I went back to work. DH throws the PBM bottle in the warmer before changing her diaper and it's ready when they're done. It helps her get to sleep easier and it ensures us that she drinks more. She was having a hard time take a room temp. bottle and warm water wasn't heating it up fast enough.

    Yes

  • Ditto the warm water, works great...I think the bottle warmer will be a waste.  You can always get it later.  There have been a million things I have bought since bringing DS home.

If you microwave BM you are killing the live cells that are protecting baby!

    Buy a bottle warmer

We didn't buy one but got it as a gift when he was a few weeks old. ?We usually use the playtex drop-ins, so we use a mug of warm water. ?We just leave it filled on the counter and pop it in the microwave for 30 seconds then drop the bottle in. ?If we do use a regular bottle, we use the bottle warmer and it works faster than the cup of warm water. ?I keep it out on the counter because it also sterilizes small items, so it's kinda useful. ?I think I only would have bought one myself if I was using the regular bottles all the time.
  • We got a bottle warmer at our shower, but found either running bottle under hot water or using hot water in a cup works great.  We warm it enough that its a little warmer than room temp.

PS.  If you are having a shower, make sure you put lots of stuff on your register, but keep in mind (atleast for me) I returned TONS of things that I didn't need. (Some things people find useful, we just didn't - ie: bottle warmer, wipe warmer, too many NB onsies, too many diaper bags, baby carrier, etc).  We had over $200 in credits which comes in handy for diapers & formula the first month and beyond!!!!

  • I BF and I use mine about once a week....  I am sure it will be more if he has bottles more often.  But I only use it to warm frozen BM.

If you are FF and do powdered, you wont need a bottle warmer unless you store the formula in the fridge.  If you make each bottle as you need it you can keep the nursery/bottled water out, so it will already be room temp.
