Some people don't drop until they are in labor. This is just one more of those things where it is different for different people. From my understanding, you can usually tell if you have dropped because you feel like you can breathe easier and you feel like the baby is lower.
I just posted something similar I'm 3-4 cm and 70%... and the baby is still really high. My OB said "generally" first time moms drop really early, and 2nd time moms don't drop until they are in active labor. I'm not following the rules, though
I have no tips on how to get the baby to drop though. So, basically dropping can occur at any time, and can mean labor is starting soon or not.
I dropped within the past 3 days and the big differences I've noticed are the pain in my right hip, pulling feeling really low in my belly and the sensation that this baby is about to fall out of my cooter every time I stand up or try to walk.
I asked my doctor last week and she said it can be either. You can wake up one morning or it can happen over time. I think I've dropped this week, since my legs now hit my belly when I go up stairs. Very weird for me, as I've carried high the whole time!
I didn't notice when it happened, the doctor mentioned that it had happened at my last appt. It now feels much heavier on my bladder and people have commented that my bump is lower and I am walking with more of a waddle in the last week. I was hoping for some relief from the feet kicking my ribs, but that has not gone away. I think he is just stretched out more now.

It's different for everyone. I dropped at around 35 or 36 weeks, and it seemed to happen overnight. I woke up one morning and noticed that I could breathe when I stood up, and I was immediately starving. At my appointment yesterday, my doctor said that the baby's head is engaged, but I never felt her drop any more than she had the first time.
