TTC After a Loss

How long does it take to for your cycles to get normal?

So I've always had the very normal and regular 28 day cycles.  When I wanted to start trying for the first time in January I just calulated it and tried and bom that was it.  I know that's not very typical at all and I was very very thankful for the immediate results.  But then I lost my baby at 21 wks and since then I had a period and just started my second but everything is so off track. What has everyone else experienced?  Does it just take a few months to get back to normal?

  • I'm sorry for your loss.

I think it's pretty common for cycles to be obscure after a loss. I always had perfect cycles, until my d&c in Feb. I've had anywhere from a 24 day cycle to 32 day cycle.

They may or may not return to your typical cycle.....

Sorry I'm not really reassuring and probably less helpful than you were hoping.

  • I am so sorry for your loss!  My period came about 5 weeks after my D&C, but the cycle length varies every month.  It's been anywhere from 29-37 days, but 32-33 days seems to be the most often.

  • I had the same problem after my D/C.  My cycles were also exactly 28 days prior to my first pregnancy and after my D/C they now vary between 31-35 days.  If is very frustrating when trying to conceive again but I guess that is my new normal.  It has only been about 4 cycles since my D/C so I guess they could change but I am not keeping my hopes up.  I think the days of predictability are over.  I am sure each person is different so perhaps you will get lucky and you cycle will be more regular as time passes.
  • I always had regular cycles too before the pregnancy, now after the D&E, my cycles are so erratic.  Hopefully it will stabilize since it's only been 2 cycles since our loss.
