Toddlers: 24 Months+

Anyone do the 3 day PT before LO was out of crib?

I saw a post a while back about the 3 day potty training method.  I really think this is a good method for us my only concern is what to do since DS is still in the crib.  We tried moving(at the beginning of July) to the toddler bed but it did not work out.  He just wasn't ready for the toddler bed, but, I really think he is ready to start potty training.  He is telling us when he goes and then asks to be changed.

I saw that this method said it worked for LO's as young as 18 months.  I just can't see an 18 month old already in a toddler bed.

Anyway, how did you tackle PT if LO was still in the crib?

  • I can't see it being a problem as long as you have a monitor of can hear your child telling you they have to go potty from their crib. Jack rarely gets up in the  middle of the night to go potty. He'll go after he's gone to bed but I think it's more of an excuse to get out of bed. He goes so it's not an issue for us. I don't remember the program saying your child must be in a bed. I only remember the program saying your child does not need to know how to talk yet.

The program says it works for 22m. It does not recommend starting before 22m. I'm not saying you can't start earlier. It's just the minimum age they suggest. They also say it tends to be easier to train closer to the 22m than further away.

  • No, DS was in his bed already, however I dont see why being in a crib would be a hindrance.  DS still isnt potty trained overnight, he wears diapers at night, but not naptime.  Naptime, he wakes up and calls for me, I go right in and take him to the potty.  (Even though he is in a bed, he still wont get out by himself even though he can!)

  • we did the 3 day potty training and she is still in a crib. it tells you no drinks i thik 2-3 hours before bed and then take them 2-3 times to the bathroom before bed (havent read it in a few months sorry if its not right on point). anyhow....she has wet herself a few times in 2 months however.....she has woken me 2 times yelling potty mom, potty in the middle of the night. her room is right by ours though. doesnt really matter if she is in a crib or not because i can hear her
