Cereal = no poop, help

I started giving DD cereal mixed with BM on Sunday. Since then she has only pooed once (yesterday). Is it because she is not ready, or it just slowed her system down? I am not sure if I should stop giving it to her or not. Any advice or 'wisdom' would be great. Thanks

Re: Cereal = no poop, help

  • I started my DD on it at 7 months and it had the same effect.  I did stop (but she also had a rash) and then switched to oatmeal when her poops got regular again.  This  was based on my gut- not wisdom or knowledge of any sort.  I also slowed her vaccine schedule b/c she was reacting poorly to the bombardment of shots, too- so my opinion is based solely on though that if it doesn't "look right" then it's not.  Your pedi may recommend you push on through so get her used to it, but rice IS part of the "BRAT" diet, so it makes sense.

  • we had to do this because of reflux...my lo had a lot of trouble pooping with rice cereal...we switched to oatmeal and no problems.  apparently, rice cereal has a binding agent and oatmeal has more fiber...hope this helps!

    Sorry, I don't know what the "BRAT" diet is?

  • Our pedi recommended that we add a little rice cereal to DD's bottles to help with reflux, when we 1st started the same thing happened. He told us to add a tablespoon of Karo syrup to her bedtime bottle every night and it was worked like a charm!
