Sleep Sack vs. Swaddle

LO is constantly refusing to swaddle, but is still pretty aware of her arms and it keeps her from sleeping. What are the pluses to a sleep sac vs. a swaddle?

Re: Sleep Sack vs. Swaddle

  • DD started breaking out of the swaddle when she was about 4 weeks old so we started using a Swaddle Me.  Like you're LO, she was moving her arms and it was keeping her awake.  The Swaddle Me works GREAT!!  But now she's starting to get her arms free from that too so we bought a Sleep Sack about a week ago.  Even though she sleeps fine even after she gets her arms free from the Swaddle Me, she hasn't been able to sleep in the Sleep Sack yet.  We've only tried it a few times on the weekend at night and I've tried to put her in it for naps during the day.  I'd definitely recommend a Swaddle Me for your LO if you haven't tried it yet.

  • We used a sleep sack but that was mainly because I suck at swaddling.  DS slept fine without the swaddle but each baby is going to be different.  The sleep sack isn't going to keep your LO was swinging her arms and waking herself up where the swaddle can do this.  Are you just using blankets to swaddle (this is what I tried)?  Have you tried the miracle blanket or the swaddleme?  I never tried them since ds was fine w/out the swaddle but I've heard good things about them.

ETA: I'm on a roll lately with messing up my answers.  There is a sleep sack that is like a swaddle.  I was talking about the kind that is basically a wearable blanket.

  • We use the swaddle me but have kept his arms free since about 3 weeks old b/c he'd always get them out anyways.

  • Although she is about to outgrow it, we got the Halo Sleep Sack with the Swaddle attachment.  Our DD hated swadlling at first but we basically forced it on her and she is fine with it now.  She will fight it for 10 minutes before she gives up, but gets much better sleep with it on.  During daytime naps I take the swaddle attachment off so she can start getting used to it without.

Maybe I will try this, we use the swaddle me but she gets so upset when we tie her arms down.

  • We use the Swaddle Me blankets.  Someone gave me a Sleep Sack, but DD knows how to break out of it, so it doesn't help us.  FWIW, DD used to fight the swaddle a lot but slept the best in it.  Now, months later, when I put her in her swaddle she looks like the most content baby ever and sometimes even looks relieved!
