Re: The Flu..Are You Getting The Shot This Year? (Poll)

  • I've never had one and I don't feel the need to get one now.

  • i only had the flu twice in my life until i started working at a bank. i didnt used to get flu shots, either. then i had it 2 seasons in a row and this year i got the shot and didnt get the flu. with all the germs im touching, im definitely getting the flu shot!
  • It's definitely highly recommended!  It's the only way for LO to be protected this flu season since they can't get it until they are older than 6 months anyway.  I did last pregnancy and plan to do it again this time.

me too! Never had the shot, why start now?

  • Yes. DH and I both got it for the first time ever last year, after DS was born with respiratory issues. We will both be getting it again this year, along with DS.

  • There should be an "I don't know" option.  I have never gotten the flu shot before, but I've never delivered that late in the year, nor have either of my doctors ever mentioned it to me.  This baby is due in December and we are not "stay at home till the season is over" people.  We'll see.  I'm on the fence about the flu shot and am planning to ask my doctor about it at my next appointment.

I'm not sure about it because last year we had a HUGE outbreak of the flu and when DH got it, the doctor said most of his patients did get the shot and they got the strain not in the shot, so the chance is still pretty good to get the other type of flu.

  • I am currently sitting at home with the flu right now. It def sucks.
  • I get the flu shot every year and this year will be no exception, unless I get specific directions to not from my OB.
  • Yes.  I've had it for the last 10 years due to working at a facility with over 300 school-age youth.  This year will be no different (I'm not getting the swine flu shot, however...too new!).

Umm because while the flu can put you under and make you really sick for a week it can seriously harm or kill your unborn child. You may want to a least talk about the pro's and con's with your doctor at your next appointment.

  • I am allergic to eggs and latex....both are contraindications for flu shots....never had one...probably never will.   *sigh*

  • Yes.  I'm getting it, the girls are getting it and I'm trying to push DH to get it.  I hate having a newborn in the middle of cold/flu/RSV season.  At least if everyone in the house has had the shots she/he is a lot less likely to be exposed to it.

BTW - We also all will get the H1N1 vaccine if it's offered.  I'm really hoping the girls and I can get it even though DD#1 is older than the target age.  Again because I'm worried about the newborn being exposed.

I never usually get one but did with DD.  I am planning on it this year as well, as long at the OB gives me the ok.  Actually last time they told me I really needed to.  My work places holds clinics and we get them for free...def bonus.  Since Lo will be born in November and will be seeing multiple people over the holidays, I think its the best thing.

  • I am getting the flu shot. I have never gotten it before...and actually have a theory as to why a normal healthy person shouldn't get it...but it isn't just me  I am fending for anymore...so I am going to break down this year and get one :( and just fyi...not to jinx myself, but I have not had the flu since I was 8...and I am now 23. I did get the Norovirus around Eater though, that wasn't fun!
  • I've never had one, but if my doc wants me to get one, I will. Otherwise I won't.
  • At my appointment on Monday, I asked my NP if I should be getting to the flu shot and she said yes, if I don't have any reaction to it. And I've gotten it every year for the past several years. But she did say not to get the swine flu vaccine, there's not enough info on it. And I knew before she even said that, that I wouldn't be getting the swine flu one.

  • I got the full blown flu 2x last year! I decided during the 2nd bout that I was getting one this year. Being pregnant has nothing to do with it.
  • Absolutely. Get one every year.
