Little Gym or Gymboree anyone?

We are taking a trial class at Little Gym tomorrow, and then two trial classes at Gymboree next week (one music and one regular). My IL's have asked what to get Maddie for her birthday, and I'm hoping they will want to contribute to paying for a class, b/c I think they are just too expensive for us to pay for alone. But I think they sound like so much fun! And it can't hurt her gross motor skills development either.

Anyone take classes at one or the other? I think I'm going to prefer Gymboree b/c they have free play that you can attend every week, which would make it more worth the expense. I am just trying to plan ahead for when we can't play outside or at the pool all week long!

  • I am SUPER curious to see how you like Little Gym. We decided against the free trial after I signed up and then couldn't make it. They kept calling me every day bugging me about registering for a "semester". I decided not to go back, both my sisters have sent their kids to the camps there, and both thought it was just "ok". Are you going to the one off of Falls? I heard it was on the expensive side. It seems like it would be fun, there is another place in the Factory in Wake Forest that maybe cheaper as well, I am going to look into that.

I want to look into Gymboree too. Let me know how you like it!

  • Yup, we are going to the one off of Falls! I'm excited b/c it's super close to our house. But it would be over $300 for a semester, which I think is 14 weeks- CRAZY! I would have to really love it, and the IL's would have to pay for over half of it before I would consider that a real option. But hey, a free class is always fun! That sucks about the phone calls, I'm sure they'll bug me too.

Gymboree is a little further away, but like I said, I like that you can go more than once a week, and I think it might be cheaper too. They let you try 2 classes for free, so we're trying the regular gym type class and a music class. Maddie really loves music, but I think the gym class might be more beneficial to her development, so we'll see.

I didn't know there was something at the Factory, that's pretty close for me too. I will check that out! I'll let you know what we think of all the classes :).

  • We did Little Gym this summer. DD loved it! She really has a blast there. My dd is VERY shy. We took the class this summer with another friend whose mom couldn't believe how DD blossomed there... she has become more independent. They also have a great make up policy.

We are going to switch to a gymnastics place here in Durham... it is closer and a little less money.Plus they have a small Saturday morning class that DH will take her to... it is starting to get hard 27+ weeks pg to help he jump around and it will only get worse! Esp after I have another c-section.

I know the Little Gym fall semester goes into January and is 20 weeks long... but still on the pricey side. Have fun! Hope your ILs help with the money! I am sure that Maddie will love it.

  • DS did Little Gym *the one in Knightdale* from 18 months *when they first opened* til right after he turned 3--only reason we stopped is because he started going to preschool.  I can't wait to get the new baby signed up when he's old enough!

  • The little boy I'm nannying for goes to Little Gym.  My 1st class with him was Tuesday.  The class size was really large and it seemed very overwhelming for the kids (birdies which I think is 10-19 months).  There were so many other kids to see and things to distract.  I've heard smaller class sizes are better.

  • We go to Gymboree. My DD loves it, although I do admit some days she skips some of the structured class activities and just runs around doing her own thing - which the instructors are ok with. She definitely is learning to interact with other children better and loves certain activities - like parachute time and bubble time.  They also do a "freeze" dance where they play music and when it pauses they all freeze. She has been doing this at home all the time the last few days, it's too cute.  The classes are a bit expensive, but we go to free play time at least 2 or 3 times a week so that kind of makes it worth it.  Also gives her a good break from our normal day to day routine.
