2nd Trimester

Is my dr. office blowing me off? WWYD?

This is kind of random but I'm not sure what to make of it. I see the same OB as I did with DS #1 and this time around he seems to be insanely busy. He was busy before, but now it seems I'm waiting a good 30 minutes (or more) to get in (and I always show up 10-15 minutes early). The last two visits they forgot to take my blood pressure. Usually you have a pap, but I was spotting so he wanted to wait - ok, that makes sense. But at nearly 1/2 through still no pap. I realize at this stage there is little to talk about but my appointments are literally 2-3 minutes long. The only thing I can think as to why he'd blow me off is that in the very beginning he asked if I was doing a c-section (since I did with DS #1) and I told him I was undecided. He doesn't do VBAC so he'd have to cut me loose if I chose to go that route.

So is it a) they are just really busy and I should simply remind them about the blood pressure thing and pap, b) he's annoyed I'm considering VBAC so I'm a second class citizen or c) I'm mental and linking unrelated things together?

In general I like him - he's always been a little "fast" so sometimes I forget to what I wanted to ask him. Like my last appointment I wanted to ask about the flu shot and H1N1 shot and I completely forgot cause he was running a mile a minute.

WDYT?

  • Not sure if he's giving you inadequate care because he's annoyed about the VBAC or because he's just busy - but either way it's unacceptable.

It is not your responsibility to remind them to take your BP - no matter how busy or annoyed they may be.

Seriously, I know it's a pain to switch doctors, but you deserve a doctor who will give you more than 2-3 minutes at an appointment!  I would definitely consider switching!

  • I dont' think he's blowing you off, I just think he's way busy. My doctors appointments only last 5-10 minutes lately. If you're concerned about not being able to get your questions answered, you should write them down so you don't forget. That's what I do, because I always forgot!

Also, if you're concerned about the vbac, you should have a conversation with him again about it b/c if you decide to go the route and you need to get another doctor, you should start looking for someone else soon.

  • To me, it sounds like he is just over-booked. I used to work the scheduling/reception desk at an OB office and it was crazy the way some doctors had their schedules laid out and no matter what we did, some of them were ALWAYS behind.

On another note, I think it is unacceptable that they are forgetting your BP and Pap. I would just ask you doctor about the pap and comment about the no BP thing. I don't know how your doc runs things, but mine has the assistant take my bp/weight/urine at the beginning of every visit so maybe he doesn't have a good assistant....I don't know but I would definitely have a convo with your OB about how you are feeling. Sometimes noone wants to say anything so the doc doesn't realize what's going on.
