If you don't like Uggs, which boots do you recommend?

At the end of last winter I finally threw away my cheap-o winter boots that I had for wayyyyyyy too long.  This year, I'm determined to buy myself a nice, comfy pair that will work great for everyday errands, playdates etc..  I want something very casual since I wear jeans or yoga pants every day.  But, I want them to be good quality and comfy, and definitely water/snow-proof!  Suggestions?

    I hate Uggs but I couldn't find anything else that I actually liked that would do the job, so I caved and got a pair anyway.  I still dont like them but i'm determined to get my money's worth out of them and this will be the third winter wearing the pair that I have (I replaced the insoles in the springtime.)

    They are not as comfortable as I thought or heard they'd be. But whatever.

    I have a pair of Columbia winter boots that I've had for years. I think they look more casual that Uggs, especially with yoga pants. I've heard that Uggs aren't waterproof anyway. The Columbia boots are waterproof and keep your feet warm in the snow.
