DH's birthday is Friday and I would like to bake a cake from scratch... which I have never actually done before, only cakes from box!
I have been googling all morning but I am so overwhelmed with the choices. Does anybody have any tried and true recipes they would like to share?
I would prefer to make a layer cake (so I can use my round cake stand) and chocolate is a must. DH distates all nuts, but loves caramel, butterscotch, chocolate, etc.
And go!
TIA!

I have this recipe opened in another tab and was thinking about it... was the frosting easy to spread?
I second this cake recipe. You can't go wrong with it!
Hmmm... this looks really good and perhaps a bit easier, maybe a good one for me to start with.
Yup, and I suck at cakes.
