so this morning when I took her out she spotted some rabbits as she normally does and wanted to chase them! we have concrete step that go up a stone wall. She was on the stone wall and jumped off of it landed on the stairs hit her little head and her sholder and her 4 legs went ever which way!!! It was the most terrfying thing ive ever had to watch!!! Needless to say she jumped up shook off and chased the rabbits into the woods!! Now i can't help but she she is like bleeding internally into her brain!!! poor baby!! So the moral from this I think i had my first maternal mommy moment i started to cry and thought oh my god what will i do when that is my child!!! Im terrified now!!!!! I feel so bad for my little dog because she can't even tell me if anything hurts!!
Re: my poor little puppy...any vets or mama's that work in a vet clinic
I'd take your puppy to the vet right away. They may need to perform an xray to see if she has any damage. I have five puggies at home, so I can imagine the fear you have. Please let us know how your pup is doing! All the best!
And yes, its scary to imagine how we will react when something happens to our babies. This might be a good reminder to everyone to take a CPR course on babies soon.
Oh my gosh I had a very similar experience yesterday. My husband and I just got a 6 week old kitten last Friday, and I play with her all the time. She takes everything like a champ. My husband joined and sort of tossed her onto the bed. Not that that hasn't happened a thousand times, but it seemed to me like she landed a LOT harder than normal, and she let out a little meow/yelp when she did. I picked her up and immediately just started cuddling her becuase I felt so bad, thinking her little legs were injured or something. Three seconds later she jumped off the bed onto the floor...
Chances are, if your dog took of and kept running, she's okay. But obviously you're going to worry!! It's your puppy!! Keep a close eye on her; see if anything is different about her movement, like if she's limping, but don't observe too close to the point you CONVINCE yourself something's wrong. If you really do notice anything, take her to the vet!
I really hope she's okay! Poor puppy! Good luck!
Not knowing how big your dog is or how far the jump was - you may feel better to know that my mom's 70 pound dog jumped off a 7 foot wall (for a squirrel) - and had the same type of landing you describe. My mom and I both saw it and you are right it was absolutely terrifying. My mom's dog also yelped a terrible sound when she landed. We raced her to the vet and she was totally FINE - just some sore legs for a couple days! However, we had great comfort in knowing that she wasn't having any internal bleeding and that none of her bones broke - which we probably would have been worried about because she did limp for a day or two . . .
I would strongly recommend taking your pup to the vet right away - to make sure everything is okay. You will probably worry sick if you don't.
Hopefully your pup is as durable as my mom's big monster baby and I agree with the previous poster - Please keep us posted!
Good luck!
She'd tell you if she hurt. She'd cry, and feel bad, and mope. Don't worry, like children, animals are very resiliant. I'm sure she's fine. You'd see neurological effects if she had internal bleeding to her brain, like bad depth perception and walking sideways or off balance. HTH!
ETA: I'm a former vet tech and partially finished vet school.
god love you mama!!!!!! she fell asleep on the foot of my bed after and i kept waking her up and she was basically like get away im fine!!! walking fine eating fine im going to go home on my lunch break and check on her again.... thank you you made me feel better
I manage a vet clinic . . . if she was hurt, you would know. She wouldn't have continued to chase the rabbits if she had a severe head injury.
Its not that big of a deal really . . . accidents happen . . . she's going to be fine. Don't panic.
